Title: Engine Breather pipe & Fuel economy...

I have, a 1986 'C' Reg Mk II Gti with an 8v K-Jet engine.  I noticed at the weekend that the engine breather pipe ( i think!) has snapped/broken.  Its the small pipe that comes out of the top of the head rocker cover and should connect to the air box.

I would like to know if I need if I need to replace this pipe with a specific VW part, or can I source it from any motorfactors - if so - what do I need?

I have also noticed that my MFA reading shows a reduction of approximately 10mpg. Could this pipe be a cause - or could it be changing from unleaded 95ron to Shell optimax?

You could get the genuine VW part or simply replace just the boken part by sliding over a length of rubber hose with the same internal diameter, as the broken pipe's external diameter.

But you could go to a scrapyard and get one.

 Your drop in MPG is probably due to this pipe as if the it will afect the vacuum inside the inlet manifold. and all  the MPG part of the MFA really is, is just a fancy vacuum meter with a road speed sensor.

Thanks for the reply, I figured that it may be affecting the mpg.

Anyone know of a decent scrappy around oxford?
