Title: mk3 8v golf gti

i know that typically vw,s produce more power than what there supposed to eg 16v,s are nearly always more than 150 bhp,my mate has just bought a 96 mk3 8v gti and says its not that qiuck,is there an easy way for him to release more power without having to spend lots of money?

New Spark Plugs
Clean out the throttle body and everything else thats clogged with crap
Port & Polish
