Title: Rust around fuel filler cap - Advice needed!
Post by: Bluesntwos on 17 April 2006, 18:23
Hi all. I'm pretty new here and need some advice. I have seen a 1991 H Mk2 16v 5-dr for sale but am concerned because there is rust around the fuel filler cap (behind the door flap). I know this was a problem on the Mk1 but haven't seen it on the Mk2 before. Should I be worried? Has anyone else experienced it? How much to repair, etc? The car is white which may mean it is more obvious to see than in other colours.

It is a weak point in the Mark 2, however, there is a repair panel available. It would mean a rear quarter respray, but white is easier to colour match than most.

Check up in the wheel arch area before you go any further, rust around the flap can be a clue to more serious problems underneath!
