Hi all,
Have a '99 MK4 GTI 2.0l 8v. Want to fit a black VW front grill badge.
Bought one from Ebay which is the new style but it doesn't fit my car!
As I understand it there's only two types
1) The pre 6/99 version - deeper
2) The post 6/99 version - much shallower.
Looking at my car, and comparing to pics of badges for sale, mines gotta be the deeper one. Yet, when I took grill out and to bits it doesn't have the clips to hold it in (like the deep one i bought) AND it doesn't even look like it comes off the centre grill part with the slats on!
Any help? Anyone? Greatly appreciated.
TIA.
Toby.

there is no need to remove your grill to change the badge. you only remove the silver vw bit from the centre of the grill. it will snap out with a bit of persuasion. see my sig pic for one fitted

Thanks for the reply Sam! Looks awesome in ur pic!
Yeah, having taken whole grill out and grill back off I looked into just swapping the very front bit - although the one I bought is the whole thing and has 3 fairly large clips around the side (if you look at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4623396467&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1) you can see them. Swapping just the front wasn't possible cos the little tiny clips on the chrome/black front are in the wrong places.
D*mn, who'd have thought badges could be so tricky!?! Did the rear ones today and apart from elbow grease to get the old tape off was a piece of cake!
