Title: Mk4 Front Grill Badge - HELP!

Hi all,
Have a '99 MK4 GTI 2.0l 8v.  Want to fit a black VW front grill badge.
Bought one from Ebay which is the new style but it doesn't fit my car!
As I understand it there's only two types
1) The pre 6/99 version - deeper
2) The post 6/99 version - much shallower.
Looking at my car, and comparing to pics of badges for sale, mines gotta be the deeper one.  Yet, when I took grill out and to bits it doesn't have the clips to hold it in (like the deep one i bought) AND it doesn't even look like it comes off the centre grill part with the slats on!
Any help? Anyone?  Greatly appreciated.

Just buy some paint thinners and gently rub away the chrome effect. :wink:

Im looking to get a black front vw badge, mines an 02' gti anyone know the best place to buy this as per the above thread i dont want to get it and find it doesnt fit  :drool:
