ive had my gti a few weeks but only just noticed the whistle when i had the window down is that right.
it is a progressive whistle !!
also at what revs does the turbo kick in
-
fit a boost gauge and you'll see the boost
otherwise around 2000rpm

The whistle is normal mate, its the sound made by your dump valve and not really audible inside your cabin, just when u have your window down. It should be a clean crisp noise without any fluttering or jitters, otherwise you may be in need of a new valve, the factory Bosch? ones are made with a weak membrane so they don't last too long.

No, the diverter valve makes its' noise when you lift off the gas!!!
The whistleing noise is normal, Craig, & the turbo kicks in about 2.5k.

Perfectly normal the whistle is! Like someone said you only hear it when the windows are down. I love the whistle myself!
