Title: Worn tyre???
Post by: paulm007 on 13 April 2006, 09:40
Hi, any tyre spotters out there??

I have a set of 225/45/17 Avon ZZ3s on my TDI and the rear passenger tyre is badly worn on the inside.  All the other tyres are wearing pretty evenly so I dont know what the problem is?  Could this be due to a suspension problem??

The car is still under VW warranty until Sept so I am keen to get it sorted if necessary

Cheers

Could be over/under inflated (forget which is is for inside wear) or probably tracking, your average tyre place can do your tracking.

Strange, they usually fit 215 45's to (EDIT) 7J x 17's.

Perhaps you got some rubbing?

But, saying that, they fit 225 width tyres to 18's, so am not really sure.

If it's warranty, just book it in & let them worry about it.

ps  Is there anything sticking out from the inner arch?

My dads cupra also has 225 tyres on 17's. Hows your steering does it ever pull to one side? Check the tyre pressures and if there fine look at getting camber and tracking checked shouldnt be much more than £40-60.

Could be over/under inflated (forget which is is for inside wear) or probably tracking, your average tyre place can do your tracking.

IIRC over inflating wears out the centre of the tyre, under inflating wears out both outer edges.

One edge worn would on the front of a car indicate a tracking or camber problem so I guess something must be amiss at the back - could you have hit something (deep pothole) and twisted the suspension or could your axle bushes be on the way out.
