Hi to all in the forum...
Can anyone tell me is it worth drilling my air box when i fit my new K&N pannel filter ?
My car is as follows-Mk 2 Golf GTI 1.8 16V....139bhp.
Thank's...for any info.

you will gain no performance from it, drilled or undrilled. Drilling it will give it a deeper throaty sound. Thats it.
-
You will gain performance, but mainly mid-range, and a much better throttle response.
-
debateable. Nothing changed when i RR mine. Generally nothing to go mad about.
-
Probably very little bhp gain overall, probably about 2-3bhp on a standard mk2 16v, but as i said more gains mid-range, which is what a driver will notice more.
RR can change slightly on several runs, so testing with and without a filter won't really show much.

Ok m8 thank's for the info...sounds like to much hassle !
dont think i will bother...
-
i have just swapped mine over, best to find a second hand airbox froma scrappy and drill that and decide whether you like it, i have just done it and love the sound!
-
Ive just bought drilled air box with afm and 2 month old k&n filter of ebay for £10, For my 8v. Taking of my green induction kit.
-
@snake16valve - if you have the earlier airbox then you can just unclip the large section on the wing side of the airbox. if its a late airbox then you can pull the resonater tube out of the airbox - it slides (needs a good tug) out from the front of the box
-
Eurotek do those steove one off induction kits for 16v, They look the dogs.
-
Hi gambit..i think that my air box is the early one..it has the flap on the box at the wing side.
Is that what u r talking about ?
-
if your car is pre Aug 89 then it'll have the earlier box.
-
Yes forgot to mention that my car was an 88 F plate..cheer's..
-
I have a k+n cone filter...does anyone changed their cone filter for a drilled airbox and performance panel filter?
Is it worth it?
-
yeah i've had green and k&n induction kits and neither worked as well as the standard airbox with a decent panel filter.
-
Ah, right. Cool.
My mates got a spare standard airbox, so I'm going to nick it off him!
Where do I need to drill holes? If any at all that is?
Your full of info today mate! Brakes/airboxes

ha ha yeah i do try....
ONLY drill the wing side of the box and ONLY in the lower half. any holes in the engine side will suck in hot air... not good, any holes in the top half will miss the filter and suck crap into your engine. also when you have the box open, pull out and discard the trumpet type thing like gambit suggested. its only there to keep things quieter but also restricts air flow.
