ive been busy today attempting to put my gti head on my driver and i have to say its gone very well so far, got it off, drilled the hole in the gti head for the coolant channel, bolted it all back together, then i snapped that bolt with the teeth that holds the alternator to the bracket..... so ill get another tomorrow and i should be finished, then i can see if its faster and also if ive missed anything and it blows up, i really should take a corse of some sort
-
ah good luck!
-
cheers, im nackered, im not cut out for all this mechanic stuff, ide been at it for 8 hours strait before i decided ide done enuf and ached too much
-

Haribo
For someone that isn't a mechanic or minded U've done a decent job so far, hopefully all goes well, on teh cambelt question i would cahnge it now prior to firing the plant up, and while your at it change the tensioner as well
-
Cheers systemseiko
right just picked up th efinal parts, timing belt, tensioner, carb mount and that bolt for the alternator, just need to stop being lazy and get my ass out side
-
Awesome, how hard was the coolant hole to sort?
Pics?
-
didnt get any pics but it was stupidly easy, twas really easy to drill thru bent abit of coat hanger while in the hole on the old head to give me my angle when i lined it up on th eother head, first drilled a little hole, went down until it broke thru, you could feel it as it went really easy all of a sudden, then did the same with a bigger drill bit then sprayed sh!t loads of carb cleaner in there to get rid off all the metal, really easy
-
cool!
-
dont it all, car doesnt work, just makes the "im trying to start but i cant noise" its getting petrol, all the TDC stuff was right.... ive done all i know how to do so im trying to get hold of my mechanic mate and with any luck hell get it running.....
-
k, only thing to remember is that the ignition timing needs to be set to 6 degrees BTDC when you get it running, not 19 like on the old driver head.
Basically from now on you use 1.8 GTI settings/spark plugs etc :)
-
holy hell!!! its working, thanks to my mate and some good advice from rubjonny  cheers
it wasnt working because the crankshaft was ...... bollocks i cant remember, it made sence at the time anyway, but hey it works and its fricking fast and i havent even had it tuned up yet!!!! well worth the effort!
