Having just had my car serviced, Knightrider stated in my previous post that hes going to service his car himself.
This way saving himself alot of money :)
Would you pay the same money for a car serviced by the owner and who has kept all receipts etc compared with a car thats been to a VW specialist / Main dealer and has got a fully stamped service book ?

I suppose it depends on if you are planning on keeping the car, or you want to just treat as something till the next one comes along.
Personally, I would not bother getting the cab done at a garage, because I dont really plan on selling it. and if it ever did go on the market, it is so old that a service history wont make much difference to the value. But a newer car is worth its money, more so, when it has all the stamps in the right places.
Likewise, if the previous owner never bothered, then why start doing it - when it has so much un-registered history allready

mine has got full vw history up to 70,000 k now at 76700 k am oing to service me self as i know what im doing, and dont warrent the cost of vw servicing!!!, my cam belt was done at 70,000 when i got it so i dont have to worry much, the book is all stamped up and i shall staple all reciepts etc to relevant pages as work is done, i feel this is worth as mouch as the rubber stamp as you know whats been bought and used!!, oh yeah i wa strained at college 12 years ago as a fully trained motoor mechanic, there fore i know what im doing and what the benefits are!! ;D
-
oh yeah im plannign on keeping my car after its all paid for so that i can increase my collection to a 3dr golf gti of each mk!!! so i think if i service it myself at least i know whts been done and what hasnt!!! ;D
-
thats a good point - I have had cars back from a service to find the oil filter had not been changed (probably 'cos it was a swine to get too) yet I had payed for a new one!!! at least you know whats done then
-
its all down as to wether you are capable or have the money!!, i have a mrs and 3 young kids, before xmas i cant afford ?280 vw want for a 80,000k service, i can do it myself for under ?75 so theres no youths messin with me car i know what goes on goes on and nowt else!!!, if yav got the money and the inability go to a stealership and get ripped off for something you could have done your self for a 1/4 of the cost!!! 8)

Spare a thought for us who have got to have it serviced at the dealers so as not to invalidate the warranty. ?230 for a glorified oil change (1st inspection service) is no fun! Thinking of changing the pads myself with VW originals, though.

;D ;D :D :D

I suppsose the main point of getting VW service is to show the car has been looked after by people who know the car and are qualified to service the car to VW standard. Wheras if you do it yourself then you might not know what you are doing.
Although if your under there somewhere anyway then you should have half an idea! 8)

cheer kniterider..
You have solved my headache over taking to vw dealer for service!! As my car now saying in for service (service insp) So that way i am gonna services my car myself as i know wot is being done !
I gonna do wot Kniterider does .. keep all the reciepts
of parts in order !
Also which best option of oil for my car ?
Mobile 1 ?
gomma ?
any idea ?
-
oh one more thing . the mileage of my car is 23 thou on T reg ! ;D
-
mines 77k on a t!!!!!, look i do my own but unless you know what your doing make sure you get the relavent handbook/ workshop manual etc to guide you!!, will save you money in the long run, but as ive said i am KEEPING my car so at least i know whats been done!!, i dont want to be held resonsible if you loose a few hundred quid when it comes to trade in time etc cause you aint got the 'stamp'!!! but the decision is yours its your car your money take your own route and enjoy!!, oh yeah i go for mobile 1 fully synthetic in mine but i only use genuine vag filters(air/oil) i would advise this as the parts are better quality over pattern parts!! ::) ;D ;D
-
i know how to erase the 'oil/service' light from the dash!!!! let me know if you needs to know how!! (no pc/laptop needed just a sequence with knobs on clocks and ignition) ::) ::)
-
yeah .. the last 7 car I have has was services by me ! as i never has the car services by dealer ! that why i has this golf now is it worth to have it service or diy by me so i have decide it to do it my self and willing to keep the car with us for 5 year
Also i did erased the service reminder off ! simple route from vw book ! i can alway put it back on when i service it ;D
