hello all
went to VAG and brought a by-pass valve kit. Installed it, correctly, and toped up coolant and ran engine on idle till fan kicked in twice and then went for a nice long rip and got home & topped up coolant again. Job Done
Only a moderate change in heat temperature coming out :'(...any suggestions because i've flushed system, forward and reverse flushed the matrix, changed the by-pass valve and now im sick and tired of the bloody car...
Any suggestions....my thinking is matix or heated gloves ;)
-
The matrix may be partially blocked. Have you tried some decent flusher stuff in the coolant system?
-
Bloody valves, they are poo. Just whip em off and have straight through pipes and hope your matrix does not blow up :o

rustynuts - LOL u is a cowboy :D
golfvr6 - i have flushed the matrix forward and reverse flushed it with some serious pressure.....so u think flush addidtive will help?

Hello
golfvr6 - what do u think about this idea?
When you push the heater setting to hot on the dash, it pulls a wire that in turn changes the blower unit to make the heat come out hot. This heater adjustment setting device, do you think that it needs to be corrected?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers
Manesh (shiver - shiver!!) ???

Try the coolant flusher first.

I have exactly the same problem (I've posted this under "incorrectly fitted by-pass valve).
I've noticed that the hose going into the metal valve gets hot but the hose going from that valve into the baulkhead (matrix) is not really getting hot, do you think I may have a faulty new by-pass valve?

I have just been into the forum named garage and somebody was talking about the heat gauge. My heat gauge sits at about 1/3 of the way doesn't get to half way, when i does then the fan kicks in, oil temp is at a constant 90 to 100 all of the time
Is that normal for the gauge to be at 1/3?
From this can you tell if my thermostat has gone?
-
How long does it take to get up to operating temp? should be about 5-10 mins if that.
-
about 10-15 mins usually...... ??? Should I change the thermostat then?
-
just been to get some food and timed how long it takes for the car to heat up.....its about 8-10 mins
-
air blocks in the system?

Im thinking of buying a by-pass valve kit. Is it an important mod. Im a bit wary as ive noticed alot of members have had problems ???
If its not broken then dont fix it?

you said it ;)

I also believe its a good idea that if it isn't broken, leave well alone, mainly as I never have the time to tinker. Having said that, this one is a safety issue, that VW felt strong enough about to recall the cars and have the mod done. You shouldn't have to buy the mod kit if it hasn't already been fitted, VW should still do it for free.............see previous posts.

get one fitted only takes about 10 mins . ?28 , nice heat (most of the time it works ) and no wet carpets that cause dodgy smells :P

Have a look at the hose after the plastic outlet valve where it bends down. If this is too badly kinked you will not have alot of heat. I was having the same problem but changing the inlet valve sorted it for me. Nice and toasty in there now!
