Title: my before and after pictures
Post by: cupra20v.t on 09 April 2006, 00:32
I bought my mk3 gti about a week and a half ago, went mad on ebay and spent a thousand pound on modifying it.
I bought crystal fogs and indicators,
crystal side repeators,
m3 rear tail lights with smoked top sections,
mk4 style headlights,
vr6 chin spoiler
badgless grill being painted at the moment so not in the pictures.
audi tt competition alloys and tyres to go with them,
new number plates with vw logo on the left and gti club small text on bottom for £18 of ebay cheapest about and they let you have what ever design you like in ant text and any logo (cool car plates)
and then worst mistake was i bought coil over adaptions you stick onto your stock shocks but i have fitted them and i cant lower it more than it is in the picture basically beacuse they are cheap rubbish, so people be aware of these coil overs from america on ebay as they are sh!te and do not lower the car much.  i will be investing some 60mm springs as a quick fix but i reckon the car looks pretty sweet. what do you guys reckon. all opinions welcome  more pics next week when i slam her to the tarmac

looks awesome mate, done a good job there.

ride height wise i think it looks good!

the ride height is ok but i would like the tyres to be in the arches a tad more, and even though it isnt that low the ride is so bumpy its unbelievable its like a fair ground ride.  so i have to change the suspension again as these cheapy coilovers are rubbish, i wanted to deck it and take some pictures and i was gutted when i set it all up and lowered it off the jack, so i ahve to get it that bit lower then i will be happy as larry.  cheers for your opinion neaty.

thats 1 one of my fears cos i like the vr6 splitter but it does extnd a lot and lowered 60mm i know i will scrape it everywhere and i will probably resort to putting the gti one back on but as long as it looks smooth for a couple of weeks untill i rip the bumper off

nice one mate, tastefully done! those wheels are probably the best suited oem wheels for the mk3 imo! just a question mate, does the vr6 splitter fit straight on? was thinking of this mod myself.

dan7 the vr6 splitter goes straight on easy to fit done mine in 5 mins no screws or anything just pull off with bruit force and push fit the new one in, i had to use a rubber mallet when joining the two pieces to the bumper as its a tight fit but just shows that it aint coming off in a hurry.
thanks for all you opinions im on the look out for black leather out of a black colour concept now so if any one knows of some give me a pm.

the grill is a slight different shade as i was desperate to get it painted and put it on, I used a halfords can of spray, im a bit of a legend with a can so the finish is top quality, just the match isnt great.  you cant see from the picture as its in the shade but in direct sunlight you can see its a bit darker than the bonnet and wings  but im happy for the mean time.

headlights were £130 delivered off ebay a shop callled vwspeed or something and quality is good and they fit perfect.  the crystal fogs and indicators were £35 plus p&p the quality on those are ok, after the first wash of the car they misted up so i have now sealed around the edges with insuation tape as they joints werent tto clever and water was leaking in but they are air tight now and no more misting up.  i got them off a ebayer called diyarmrestor rabbit or something like that.  but for the money all the bits are tidy expcept my sh!tty coil overs.  the bit i bought were cheaper than all the shops magazines and other ebay goods.  i bought the rear lights from volks bits  they are the cheapest ive found for rear lights £94 delivered.

mate that looks awesome!!! I have the same car and color as you but in the 5 dr and have the same ideas as what you have done, I have the MK4 headlights, Bonrath debadged grille, 17" TSW alloys, want to get the chin spoiler, crystall indicators and repeaters but will be going to inters for the good deals in a few weeks....
but I'm looking at lowering it at the moment and getting mixed views on ride hight.
I look at some pictures from some posts on here then ask the people how low they went, but you get someone saying they lowered theres 40mm and then someone else saying the same thing but yet one looks lower than the other, so I think I might go for FK coilovers but will talk to people at inters...
How low did you go with yours because it looks good, but I just want the front a little lower than you have it...the back looks perfect?????

i bought cheap and nasty coil overs from usa and they dont match the car 100% hence why the front is higher than the back but the back is 40mm and the front is unkown, i want it lower tho so im going for 60mm springs and shortend shocks from raceland, i love my cars low, not bothered about ride quality as any lowered car is bumpy just going for looks at the moment.  thanks for you comment mate makes me smile and realise that a grand was worth it in the end.

i have bought a house and had to down grade my car so i sold my seat cupra 20vt and bought a saxo vtr which i hated from the word go, so i sold that and blew all my money on getting and modding the golf which im glad i did now as its a lovely car NOW (but could do with a bit more poke)
