Hi All,
Just joined the forum after buying a 1989 GTi 8V.
After reading lots of previous posts, I thought I had confirmed that my engine was a Digifant given that I couldn't see any fuel lines running down the driverside wing.
I then went to vwspares to get some bits and found that my engine code (EV) did not match the year date codes on the website. According to the site, EV engine codes are K-Jet
So now I'm really confused! :undecided: Do I buy according to the year or the code? Anyone else have a 1989 Digifant EV engine?
By the way, the engine code and VIN match that on the V5.
Any help is much appreciated. Cheers!ÂÂÂ

maybe it was k jet converted to digi????just a guess!most parts are interchangable.what bits are you looking for?
-
might be best to go get a pic and stick it up here for all to see :nerd:

I was looking for the usual stuff such as dizzy, rotor, ht leads but its engine specific on the website.
OK, I'd love to upload a picture. Sorry to sound daft but how do you do that? When I click on the 'insert image' button I just get this (http://)
:embarassed:

You need to upload the image to something like photobucket and then put the link to the image between the (http://) tags
If you want, email me the picture and I'll upload it for you. my email addy is stevie.mulcahy@mac.com

if its an 89 its defo a digifant. I bet someone has swapped an EV block for some reson, prob due to them blowing up the original. Both blocks are identical though :)
-
Hooray! Sussed out how to upload a picture. Thanks for your help StevieM.
So here is the engine. Now do I buy Digifant bits or do I buy K-jet bits? Or worse still, please don't tell me its not a GTi engine at all!

Thats a Digifant engine, but as Johhny says, someone must have replaced the original PB code block at some point.
-
Yup, that is certainly a Digifant unit on there, it is the same as mine
Best thing I would say to do is have a good chat with your local VW Stealership and explain what is under the hood or go and show them.....build up a good rapport with them and you might be surprised how usefull they can be (Well mine is in Plymouth anyway )

^^^^ Obviously your stealer isn't as busy as mine !
-
my stealer is a legend! well the parts dept are... they're used to being asked odd questions by people like me so know alot of crossove rparts and even offer alternatives that they know are compatible!
-
The you are lucky! I have to go in there with either part number or the near exact VAG description to get what I want.
I live in the Thames Valley and the dealership is really a conveyer belt for selling and servicing fleet vehicles. The technicians dont seem to know any of the older models or the parts.
I ordered LA5U paint, and they ordered in LA5Y. ! Bandits.
They didn't know what digifant throttle switches were !

Thanks for all the help. At least I know there isn't something badly wrong.
TwistedAspect, I went to my local VW dealer in Wakefield to enquire about the heater bypass valves. He didn't even know what I was talking about! Its going to be a long road..................

most stealerships dont have a clue cos they are used to newer models.most of the time its pointless cos you can get most parts else where at half the price.i rang mine for a price on a piston and they wanted £130 plus vat!! they can fook off!!lol
the lad in the parts is pretty cool hes done quite a few conversions and such like but he wasnt prepared to give any discount sod that!
