Hello all, i'm new to this section of the site so hello to those who don't know me. Anyway, my questions is:-
How difficult is it to put a Mk3 gti 2.0L engine in a Mk2? I can get all looms and gubbings so thats covered, but what about mounting it? Are they similar or do you need to fabricate new mounts?? :undecided:
Also, if anyone has done this and has anything else to offer in the way of advice, that would be much appreciated!! :smiley:

mK1 or mk2???? doesn't matter really whichever it is you'll just need to use the cars original mounts :wink: mk3's have cable change gearboxes but you might want to stick with the cars original box.

My brothers got Y plate gti, but the rings have gone. So, we're undicided as to whether to sort out the rings or just stick a lump in from a mk3 - providing it fits of course. We have mate who can swap the engines over, but dont really have the equipment to lift out the engine and strip it to get at the rings. I think the original box works fine so we could stick with that - thanks!!

Will fit straight on no bother providing original head is a 1.8, I think the 1.6 head is quite different.
You swap the MK1 mounts to the MK3 block, then you then need to swap the gear off the 2.0 dizzy onto your old dizzy, and fit it using an adaptor ring. There is also a breather on the front of the block, you can buy a blanking plate to block it off.
The last thing to think about is the gearbox/clutch setup. You can either swap a 1.8 clutch & flywheel to the 2.0 and use the existing gearbox, or use a MK2 16v or MK3 rod change box & clutch setup.
Both the adaptor ring & blanking plate are available from TSR I believe :)
