Title: Door hinge replacement....
Post by: dan7 on 06 April 2006, 19:38
The driver's side lower hinge on my '96 golf 3 door clunks and drops when its opened. how easy are these to replace? i notice theres like a torx(?) bolt secured into the pin assembly. is it a nightmare to change?

Mines started to do this a little.  I cant see it being to hard to replace. Just find a socket that fits snugly if you cant get a torx bit. Get a jack and a peice of wood to suport the door while you change the pin over.

Yep. Its actually the hinge pins that wears out. Im pretty sure you can get just the hinge pins from the dealers and not the whole mechanism.  Just tap the old one out and replace with new one whilst supporting the door as i mentioned before
