I started a bit of a rift here obviously.
I have my reasons for prefering a coup? - sic
1. I'm too tall for a five door
2. They look better
3. They're lighter
4. It's a Sports car goddamit!!!
But that's my opinion - what do you prefer? Two in the front? Or Four all round?
(i'll ignore the hatch - as both cars have these)
-
I've never ever seen a 5 door car that looks any good.
-
5 doors are more rigid than the 3 doors, though i still prefer the 3 door

how you figure cutting two more holes in a body shell makes it more rigid?
-
3 door baby.
Why?
Because I have one.
-
The more doors the better I say

Bollox.....
-
5 door cars are just a mess.
proper cars should have 4 wheels, 2 doors and 2 seats.
-
I prefer 5 door as i have got kids! I don't think there is a lot of difference in weight, but i'm sure you will all correct me if i'm wrong.
-
I got a 3 door as most of the time its just me in it goin to work, other times (like once or twice a week) theres only one more person, and very rarely 5... when i have kids i'd prefer a 3 door anyways because i figure they cant fall out the doors or windows etc etc its probably a pain to do the child seat business in a 3 door though..

5 door with RX8 suicide doors - that would look so good!!

yeah yeah, and 8v have more torque and big brakes make you stop quicker....
-
5 doors are more practical and safer IMO. It scares me to think they cannot get my kids out if I was in a crash if I had 3 doors. Yes I am an over protective mother LOL.
3 door might look better to some but thats not good if your stuck in the thing. :)
Just easier too with a family. ;D
Does it really matter? :-\

Bang on - couldn't have said it better myself.
My position (for those that haven't heard this boring story from me before) is that shortly I'll be changing cars and will have a grand to spend on a motor. After ruling out Vectras / Mondeos etc for a variety of reasons, I opted for the Golf Gti MkII.
Yep - 3 dr looks better IMO, but it had to be 5 door as we'll have a baby in the family come February next year. So at the moment as far as I'm concerned - 5 dorr kicks ass.
I'll get off my soap box and leave now............ ;D

i know what your saying both of mine are 3drs, the kids (all 3 of em) are ages 2,5and 7 ive tried to teach em about getting out if ever anything happens, but after watching topgear the other week when the car went into water and struggled to get the door open it was scarey, me and the mrs thought 'how the hell would we get the kids out!!!' scarey but never mind we bought both on impulse and other than the obvious risk its sound!! :o
-
Fair enough mate - as you say the risk is negligible.
I actually always thought a 3 dr would be ok with kids as we're both in good shape and so lifting in and out shouldn't be a problem.........
...........that was until I looked after my mates boy for a while !! Simply too much strain on the lower back lifting kids in and out of car seats with a 3 door. 5 door is bad enough but 3 makes it too difficult IMO. Hence had to sacrifice a little and decide to go for the 5.
(Apologies to all listeners who are slowly nodding off listening to all this baby / car seat talk.......... :))

LOL. Well I am 8 months pregnant and there is no way I could strap our 3 yr old in now if we had had a 3 door. Its hard enough with the 5 door leaning over. Also parking spaces are so small it would be hard to. Dont worry all these young single peeps will learn ;D ;)

I have a three door, the wife has the five door ;). The best of both worlds.
