Hi Guys
I have seen a few GT TDI's badged up as 'GTI' on the back with the 'I' in Red.
Are they meant to be like this? and would I be a Chav if I badged my GT TDI 115 up as a GTI?
-
the only TDI's i know of that are badged as GTI's are either the 150bhp model of the Anniversary model.
for the rest it mainly depended on what badges the dealer had in stock!! but i reckon as a general rule of thumb the following applies
TDI - all silver is the 90 or 110 models (might be others)
TDI - red I indicates the 115bhp model
TDI - with red D & I is the 130bhp
TDI - all red is the 150bhp
GTI - is most likely the Anniversary model which also had the 150 engine
then you see some badged as GT TDI..........
more than welcome to badge it as a GTI as its quicker than the 2.0 and 1.8 n/a GTI models
-
leave it - let me know they've been stuffed by a diseasel
-
Def leave it, looks better the TDI badge me thinks and Ive had Gti's before. I got the silver T then red DI looks cool enough for me
-
theres a diesel round the corner from me with gti on the back with a red i not sure which one it is though its deffo not an anniversary
-
i think it was down to whatever was supplied with the car at the time.. although all of the gt(red i)'s i've seen have the optional winter pack on them (btw, i have a red "i" on my gti pd150)
-
The GTi badge with the red i is off the 1.8turbo PETROL GTi, hope this answers your question, the anniversary ones had the all silver anni badge on :nerd:
-
Ive seen a 150pd badged as a GTi red i :undecided:
-
The red I is meant for a 1.8t, but that doesent mean you cant stick em on anything else tho :undecided: the same as I can stick an R32 badge on mine, that dont make it an R32 tho
-
got a gt tdi 150 .. an it's badged as a GTI with the red I ..is a jan 2003
-
My TDI has the red 'I' and mines only the 110!
-
TDI's are a whole different story again :undecided:
-
Mine is a Sept 03' - 53 plate 150PD. It was a factory order, and its got GT Red I.
Genuine UK car - wipes the floor with most things!! Fast as and for sale in 2 months....... anyone interested, it'll be in the For Sale section & on eBay - Cheers.
-
Oh the joys of selling cars on Ebay!!  Get some right cheeky bastards on there!
-
Mines an 02 plate 150, badged as GTI (all silver). But its not the anni model (no matter how hard I wish). Whats that all about?
-
mines an 03 plate 150pd and its badged GTI
dont know what its all about.all models diff for some reason.

First post for me!
Mine's a Red 02 PD150 with all silver GTI. It's not an anniversary model but given it'll eat petrol GTI's (mk4 I mean!) for breakfast I think it deserves the badge!
I did buy an all red TDI badge from Awesome but to be honest, I'd be doing the car a disservice as it's the best thing I've ever driven. My previous car was a Ford Focus Zetec 2.0 ESP and it was fantastic but my Golf is something else!
-
mine had an all silver GTI badge on the back (GT TDI 150) but the bloke i bought it from had the badge removed to fix a dent in the boot.
I'm going to leave it de-badged for 2 reasons;
1 no matter how long i spend lining up a new badge it would never look right would either be too far left or too high etc.
2 people don't know what you've got untill you leave them in a cloud of 'dirty' smoke

As you can see in my sig mine is just all silver GTI (2.0L).
How hard is it to replace with a GTI as I think it looks alot better with the red.

shouldn't be that hard, as you'll be left with the GT so the I will be easy to line up
-
Please excuse my lack of knowledge but how would I go about removing the I and putting a red one on? It seem pretty stuck on to me. Also E-bay the best option for purchasing a red I?

basically it should be stuck on with double sided tape, so it should ease off. if you have trouble then a hair dryer should help to ease the gum. once you've got it off, then give the area a proper clean and pollish to remove the excessive glue.
