Hi
Ok i think ive found a Rallye.. Just got a few questions first...
The one i have looked at has a small amount of rust on the sills, its only surface rust, is this normal and any ideas of cost of repair?
The front arches have been cut, the lip that the arch would usually have has been cut away and on one side the tyre has caught the wing, its started to rust slightly and its bubbled in one place. is it normal for Rallyes to have there front arches cut, or for them to rust, How much would a repair be? Could it be repaired?
Where the car has been jacked under the car, it looks like the floor has slightly caved in, ive never seen another rallye so i dont know if this is there normal look. Any advice welcome.
I hope i have found a good one.
Cheers
Knobby.

to me, someone who doesn't know much about ralleyes, that sounds like a dodgy one....
try looking HERE (http://www.supergolfs.co.uk/) for some ralleyes etc, you have to check back once in a while, they haven't got a ralleye in at the mo...

I'm being proper fussy...
I just need some opinions of someone that has a Rallye, the guy seems spot on, it runs well, and overall the car seems like a good one.

I think the sills are a weak spot on the rallye, they're metal arnt they? As for the floorpan it is the same as a normal MK2 so if its caved in it shows someone wasn't taking enough care when jacking up the car. Have a close look at the arches and decide if they're savable, as finding replacement Rallye wings wont be easy!
I'd have thought the cutouts would be normal since I imagine it was designed for wide wheels from the start? Do the cutouts look identical either side?

The sills are a weak spot on rallyes, i have seen a few that have started to bubble and need some work doing on the soon. As for the arches, i am not sure that they are meant to be cut, as the blown wings should have made space for the wheels and not required cutting. Jacking point as jonny has said is definately the same as a mk2 floorpan so someone has been careless lifting it, no doubt a garage at some point.
Regarding some more info, you can try pm'ing:

as they all have rallyes on this site.

Hi
Thanks for the advice. to be honest i think i am just being a little too fussy. its a 17 Year old car, its bound to have some rust. The arches are not bad, was surprised to see them cut. I know std mk2's are cut all the time. Like you i thought the rallye arches were much wider.
I'm getting a little parnoid about spending 5k on a 17 year old car. Its gonna need some money spending on it i guess.
Was f&cking nice

Where on the sills is the rust?
Is it exposed or showing as bubbled paint?
Sills are no longer available but a decent body shop can repair them.
Are the arches cut away or is the lip just rolled which is quite common - either way repairable.
The floorpan is not the same as a MkII, where is the dent?
-
Hi
thanks for all the advice.... I didnt think the floor plan was the same.. i was told something to do with Corrado front subframe. The dent on the floorplan is close to the front arch. Where the wing ends.
I think it is just careless jacking. just wondering if someone would be able to repair this?

Unless it pushes the carpet up or the underseal is cracked I wouldn't worry about it too much.
There is a jacking point there on both sides which is double skinned and after all this time is bound to be a bit deformed.

Hey Yorkie.. Thanks for the advice... i'm in agreement with you, think i was perhaps just being a little fussy.
Do you own a Rallye?

The floorpan IS the same, only the centre tunnel & boot area is different.

Someone call me!
Knobby where you based? If your close by you can have a look over mine. The sills go on them along with arches. Anyway, PM me if you need help. Toper and JV can give you advice on these.
