Title: Just thinking... Wonder why most VR6 are 12v when more valves the better?! ahem
Post by: benross on 02 April 2006, 19:59

Just thinking... If the 16v is so much better than the 8v- purely because the 8v only has 2v per cyl... why are the bulk of VRs only 12v.

Strange eh

Slick... Not carrying on the argument youve locked jus thought id say!

is it because it used a cam/bank at first? But they started doing 24v vr6s later on where  one cam was inlet and the other was exhaust...

It was just progression of head designs....

Also compare a Hemi V8 with a Mercedes or BMW V8, you'll find the Euro engines use more valves and are better engines compared to the 40 or 50 year old tech used by the yanks...

Mk4 v6 4 motion
By the way both engines are DOHC

does the vr6 use rockers to control the valves further away from the cam?

Its a narrow V arrangement with two rows of three cylinders hence minimum one camshaft for each row of cylinders regardless of number of valves.

yeah, whereas most v6s have a head per bank of cylinders, the vr6 has one head for both, so thats why theyre all classed as dohc
