Which fuel should I use in a 91 8v Gti.
I have been using unleaded..
Thanks
-
Unleaded or better use optimax.
-
I thought leaded was long gone? ??? you on about 4star?
-
Yeah,
I mean 4star or lead replacement, what are your thoughts?
-
i thought 4star messes GTi engines up?
Unleaded is more expensive but it will also make your car run cleaner and better.
-
I was told K-jets don't like LRP, which is what i assume you are talking about.
-
91 GTI should have digifant with knock sense, so you can run it on just about anything (not diesel ;)).
As said earlier in the thread, optimax is the prefered fuel of most golf owners, give it a go.
Steve.

i use premium in my 1989 16v it works a treat . volkswagon recommend using 98 ron fuel (which now you cant get ) premium is 97 ron . a bit more expensive but it runs better (no more pinking hehehehe) ;D
-
I think you mean super not premium ;)
-
your quite right sorry mate to many beers :-[
-
I keep trying optimax in my 90-8v gti but i find it hard to notice a difference in performance and it seems to make it worse on fuel ie 80 miles to a tenner on optimax, and about 100 miles to a tenner on normal unleaded,im a bit wiery!

I thought all other premium unleaded petrol is 95 ron, super unleaded is 97 ron and Optimax is 98 Ron.
Correct me if im wrong? But Im quiet sure Optimax is 98 Ron
-
Correct ;)
-
your probably right . like i said to vr6 too many beers had woubles with my turds . it is super unleaded that is 97 ron not sure what optimax is never used it

A knock sensor is bolted to the block and sensing the engine knocking(or pinking), this then sends a signal to the ecu to tell it to retard the ignition timing briefly. This enables the car to use 95RON fuel. They are not fitted to k-jet cars , only cars with electronic fuel injection.
-
is that the sensor on the left of the oil filter?
-
Don't know without looking! is it bolted into the block itself?
-
Im thinking its the round shaped sensor bolted to the block with a blue connector?
-
I think so. There is a knock sensor where you say according to the manual.
-
Cheers just had to get that cleared up ;D
-
Correct ;)
dont i get a gold medal ;D
