Title: WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS IS

i have just drove back from my parents house and on the way back i lost a lot of power ,now my 97 8v gti is very slow and whistles/hisses from under the car,is it my cat ???anyone else had this problem.if its the cat how much are they and where ??
