Very unlucky m8. Seems like a lot of people are having there stereo's nicked lately. The way I?ve got round it is not to have a stereo at all. Tend to start talking to your self though and singing the last song you heard before you get into your car. Dam cheeky girls.

The thing that most people dont see is that they BLAST music from their wiked sterio systems when they park the car up.

Turn it down when you park the car up. This is where some owners make the mistakes :-\

I'm real sorry to hear about all these thefts, but has any one had a head unit pinched that has a removable faceplate? I have a kenwood mask unit in mine, but recently I have taken to removing the faceplate whenever I get out.

the theiving gits still hav a go at nicking the stereos even wivout the face on, cause they got a gang somewhere who knows someone who's bound to of nicked a face from somewhere, but it does help to take it out though, i never ever leave my face on the unit!!!!
stealth shelf helps a bit aswell, at least if there randomly on the thief they'll look but wont see anything an will usually move on to one that has got them displayed like a shop window! an they sound better!

Really that doesn't seem to help. I have seen faceplates for sale by the dozens on ebay. Someone steals your head unit they just go on ebay pick up a face plate and off they go. getting robbed sucks though. I had my garage broke into 3 weeks after getting here and lost about a grand worth of tools and a quad bike. insurance did nothing about it never saw the quad bike again. Bad part was I knew that i heard them there the night before and figured it was the dog making racket and never checked it out.

adam, don't the latest kenwood masks have the 'face' (if you can call it that) and the unit matched so you can't use a different face on the old head unit. I think I read that somewhere.

Another way to keep your headunit is to get some of that twisted metal like rope (the ones laptops use. pcworld sells it) and bolt 1 end to your headunit using the thread on the back pivot it 90? on the bulkhead behind the headunit and ancor it to the floor with a padlock. The downside is they'll more than likely fsck the dash surround up trying and hopefully failing to take the headunit out which won't budge. But at least you keep the stereo.

2 ways to look at it:
1) ?300+ of stereo lost forever
2) ?10 ish dash surround fscked and replaced from scrappy

I know which I prefer.

Locking cages that all headunits have now are useless. halfords and other stereo shops sell replacement keys :( or anyone that's bought a kenwood headunit has a set of keys to steal another :(

Why is it back all of a sudden??? mm i wonder maybe Tony can tell us? or maybe his eyes on the street Blunkett? (Laugh, well i would if i wasnt so pissed off with it, sorry)

Asylum seekers or pikeys guaranteed.  Theres loads of pikeys in the Berkshire area.

Thats a hell of an idea with the "swedgie cable" I may have to try that when i replace the head unit in mine. :)

Jeez !!!

I too am sorry to hear of the news.  My last car was borken into and the head unit was tried to be removed.  Because I fitted it in so well and tight they couldn't get it out, so they ended up smashing the bloody thing with a hammer in frustration and slashing all the roof lining.  They ended up getting away with the parcel shelf and front speakers, but the car just wasn't the same afterwards.  I know it sounds funny, but its a bit like car rape in some ways.  I didn't feel comfy driving it again and once it was all repaired I just had to sell it on.

Sorry once again, but yes folks, keep the gits from getting ya gear.  !! :(
