Title: To break or not to break?
Post by: Redbaron on 31 March 2006, 20:25
Having a dilemma with my mk2 16v. It  a helios blue 3 door on an f reg with 132k on the clock, no history, and has a dented rear panel and corner and im not sure whether to

a) break it
b) sell as is
c) try to fix then sell.

Last year it rolled off my drive and into a wall and dented the rear corner and rear panel.  The paintwork is a bit shabby anyway and i was planning to respray it this summer. The rear caliper has siezed and is binding which makes it wail when it gets hot, also the rear bushes need doing and inner cv joints.  But, im a student at uni and its all starting to take its toll and i dont think i can afford to run it anymore.

Since ive had it (8 months) its had:

- Brand new Koni TA shocks and springs
- G60 top mounts
- Scorpion stainless exhaust (square/oval tailpipe)
- K&N panel filter
- Stealth rear shelf with 10x7 Kenwood speakers
- 90 spec big bumper kit (rear ruined by wall, front cracked by selfish pheasant)
- 90 spec fogs
- BBS RA alloys with Toyo Proxes
- New heater matrix and bypass valves.

All the electric windows work as i stripped them down and reconditioned them, along with the MFA and everything else working as it should.

Basically I want to raise as much cash back from it as i can to help my skint ass! Its still MOT'd and taxed for a few months yet also.

Any advice from anyone who has broken a car before? Is it best to strip it at a scrap yard? How much does it cost to have a car removed from your street?

 :undecided:

I know its worth not a lot at the mo but since ive had it its had

I'd say the same, or at least fix it to sell it.  If you sell it as it is you wont get much :undecided:

Lol if I could I would! Im already restoring a Mk1 Gti so i have no spare cash and im hankering after a caddy which would be cheaper to run by far (no more expensive Optimax!!!)

I think the main problem is the bodywork.

I have -1247 quid in my acc

tits

Cheapest quote i got (for cash) was £250

Ive got a litre of helios blue paint, how hard is it to spray mettallics? Also got a bare tailgate as the one on it is rustyfied

reckon i could do it myself if i set up a breeze free booth in my garage?

Well yeah, trouble is though im fairly good at the mechanical side of things but all my painting work tends to come out rather gash. My prep work is what really lets it all down.

Anyone know any good/cheap bodyworkists in the Bristol area?
