Right I used to think my GTI was fast & my mates VR6 really fast but everythings been put into perspective!!! I drove the new 320 hp impreza yesturaday which was fast & a Lamborghini Gallado :laugh: which was a joke :evil:
I must say truly epic performance from the lambo couldnt tell you how fast i was going as I didnt really have time to look at the speedo :grin: but it was screaming in 5th gear so id imagine 160 ish!! great fun! & the brakes defied physics & gravity!! you wouldnt believe how fast that thing could slow down!!! amazing experience!!!
It was a track day gift experience thingy by the way.

Try a bike then....Kawasaki ZX-10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Honda FireBlade, Yamaha R1. In fact anything over a 600cc sportsbike will smoke, and I mean utterly smoke, all those big, super-expensive cars. And none of the Japanese ones cost more than about £9000 new.
Raced a load of them on my 750 on the way back from Le Mans last year - nothing came close.
How about 0-60mph in about 2.8 secs. And 0-180mph in about 2o-odd seconds.
Puts it all into perspective.
Only downer is the rain, the cold, and the added issues if you do have an off. Worth it though.

lambos and ferraris are so over rated in the speed stakes. look at the quarter mile figures.. not as fast as you'd think. id go with the bike. i have a fireblade and nothing can touch it except another bike of similar power. they lack the handling of a good car but for out and out power. gimme a 1ltr engine, a frame and two wheels and im happy

Trouble with big bikes - and big cars come to that - is it's too easy and the opportunities to push yourself (you're unlikely to push the car/bike) are so limited off a track and the consequences don't bear thinking about. I've driven some pretty hairy cars and bikes but get as much pleasure out of pushing myself and my car or bike.
There isn't anything to compare with the OH MY GAWD!!!!! that you get from 120+bhp on a bike or 200+bhp in a car but its beaten day to day by hustling my Golf Driver along just about as quick as it will go, which is why I got a toot and a wave from an Impreza driver the other night after he followed me across country. He probably had to make no effort at all and I was a sweating wreck after 10 miles of wondering what the f**k was following me! That said what bar a jet fighter can match doing a sub 12sec 0 - 100 - 0 on a Triumph 900!!

I went out in my mates Evo 6 during the week...tuned to 300+bhp it was PHENOMINAL! In my opinion too quick (as in if I had it I would either loose my license immediately or kill myself in it) but what a car! My Vectra is 200bhp but this Evo was a different world all together!

There have been quite a few bikes vs cars encounters - and against pretty much everything the bikes will come out on top. Primarily because of the differences in acceleration. I have been at various tests where supercars have been whipped into the ground by bikes as the bike test riders hoick the bikes up onto the back wheel at 140mph just because they can. A fella I know murdered a Lambo Gallardo around a track on his MV when they were out on track together in Italy.
BUT...
If you compare F1 to MotoGP bikes, however, the situation is massively different because the F1 cars stomp all over the bikes because of the braking and cornering forces the F1 cars can produce. Ground effects aerodymamics, huge slick tyres (times four) and carbon brakes will murder a bike - even if the acceleration of an F1 car is still slightly slower than a MotoGP bike (about 250bhp and 145kg from a 990cc engine).

Sadly not. When F1 and WSB do Monza - and I'm assuming they use the same circuit layout - their lap times are 20 sec diff!!!! Top speed and acceleration are similar and the power to weight on the bike is better but the car can carry speed through the corners with all the downforce. It's reckoned - though no one has tried it - that you could drive an F1 car across a ceiling if you got enough speed up before you flipped it. So it's no contest and MotoGP bike would suffer just the same.

5th gear tested a gallardo against a ducati and the ducati was only quicker round the track by a tiny amount, there was a video floating around on the net of it.
things like caterhams/westfields etc are quick quick quick!! well with the right engine they are! those bike engined versions are up there with bikes but can corner faster as well. it would be interesting to see a hayabusa vs a hayabusa engined westfield :huh:

its an Ariel Atom and as you can see by this vid they do 0 to 100 in about 7 seconds and thats standard. the atom has a supercharged Honda civic Type R engine and they weigh less than a fart so they are pretty damn rapid!

last year i had a tommi makinen evo 6 with fcom pro zorst filter etc it was running 320hp maybe more... off the lights it would play with bikes no bullsh!t this is a 4sec 0-60 car standard if was mega.... i think people 4get its about power/weight ratio a lambo or prancing horse maybe quite heavy, evo's sub's etc with decent power are very fast but built to a 3rd of the quality.

That is some motor but I had a Moto Guzzi LeMans 20 years ago that would do 0-60 in a tad over 4 secs. That said you wouldn't get me trying that on anything other than a perfect day and every day is a perfect day in an Evo! And that said you wouldn't get 60mpg from the Evo even if you pushed it ticking over! Horses for courses really. I love both.

hello every one,just pitched up from north east fife in scotland.mates have a R1 rear engined mini which is surprisingly fun-not same league as super cars but awsome all th same!!ripped the sh!t out of a few folks in it!also a calibra turbo engined corsa which is big time rapid but eats gearboxs!waiting on the 225TT golf mk2 gettin finished though!!!glad2be hear!. :grin:

Any car with 100bhp-per-tonne or more is where it feels fast.

They had a motogp race a F1 car in a straight line, F1 pissed all over it. Problem with the bike is that all the power through the rear wheel, and nothing over the front makes it buck up, so they cannot fly off the line on full throttle, whereas the F1 just buries it and is shooting off. No contest really, as the F1 car is also a hell of a lot more aerodynamic.

i used to think my golf was fast, now ive got a 370bhp rwd Cosworth, the Golf feels like a 1.0 now lol, hence the reason im selling it :grin:

its used daily, done 9k in 6mths and not a problem in sight, depends how well you look after them and what work youve had done :wink:

I was on a track day and there was some geezers with an atom, fast little toy, but they were forever spinning it. The handling is not that well sorted apparantly....bit of a handfull.

The fastest i have ever been is 60 in my old Sooty van, it even said Sooty on the front and had an orange flashing light when overtaking

100 MPH downhill in an 1100cc Punto felt like you were about to break the sound barrier. The steering wheel was shaking so much it was toning my arms and the engine was screaming like something I've never heard before.
