Ok, my mate has a 16v and has the following problem. Sometimes she doesn't want to start. Our mechanic (he is a VERY good mechanic) Is sure that the injectors are losing pressure. The problem is, where to source new ones as he says they are obsolete from the dealer....Are the injectors manufacured by Bosch? could they be sourced direct from Bosch if so?
-
merc ones will work, but if they are loosing pressure check the fuel pump first, as there is a non-return valve which prevents fuel returning to the tank. If the injectors were at fault, they would be leaking into the cylinders which can be tested by whipping em out and leaving em in a jar overnight :)
GSF do the injectors:
18753 FUEL INJECTOR-PETROL G2 16V 2/86 >10/91 27.50
I'll dig out the merc part numbers when I can get to my PC

Ta. Johnny. Any idea from which Merc?
He almost certainly would have known about the valve, the guy is a total VW nut.
As for the GSF ones they are not up to the job he reckons, and won't consider fitting them at all ! :nerd:

We will almost certainly be at the pod. Are the 16v injectors the same as the 8v ones ?

No I work in computers, thought about a second career as a mechanic, but the pay aint as good!  Just managed to get back on my PC.  Advantage of Merc injectors is they're cheaper, and are made of Brass so don't rust.  Though I think you have to swap the ends over or something, and some are different sizes so might wanna take a fuel line in to test?  Anyway, the part number is:
A0000785623
Don't forget new o'rings & inserts:
034 133 557e - top o-ring
035 133 557a - bottom o-ring
Brass threaded insert: 034 133 555A
plastic insert: 035 133 554
rubber seal: 035 133 557
And 8v K-Jet injectors are the same as 16v :)

you could get the injectors ultrasonicly cleaned? like i posted a while back, i know a guy who does this and re-builds them. brilliant results let me know if you're interested..........
-
yeah, dunno if it would help tho. as I guess that would apply if the injectors were blocked slightly, or not giving a good uniform spray. These are leaking apparantly when they are not actually firing.
I think trying second hand ones first might be his best bet.
-
I had the same problem with my valver and had all the injectors, seals and fuel pump replaced at C&R in Nottingham about two weeks ago.
The improvement is phenomenal - i'll drop Steve an e-mail and see where he sourced the injectors from and let you know mate
Aaron.
