how prone is the golf gti 8v to lift off over steer?
does it get worse when lowered?
mine is a b!tch for it, holds the road forever, grips like a teenager watching porn, but lift off with a bit off trottle in a bend, and wooahhhhhh.
sometimes you have to lift off, maybe i should slow dow.........

:grin: HAHA! Sounds like you have fun with your car!! It is a bit prone to lift off oversteer but all fwd cars are. I make a point of doing all my braking before the corner and powering round regardless! Unless of course the unexpected sheep appears in which case you gotta be ready to catch the little beast! errr.... not the sheep you understand but the car :laugh:
Lowering/stiffening will make it grip better but make it more liable to 'snap' out when it gets to the limit. As i understand it, and i might be wrong but fancy replying anyway due to excess beer, the softer springs absorb some of the sudden sideways movement created by lifting off.

I had lift off oversteer as I was understeering out of a roundabout. I had 4 hour old wheels/tyres on and I didn't want to hit the kerb, so I lifted off and ended up smashing into and over the other kerb and landing in a field. I had to be towed out. kerbed and bent my brand new £900 wheels :cry:

trust i know.
tyre choice also wuld play a part, i used to get lift off oversteer loads but learnt a bit about my braking technique. if you have to lift off in a situation when l/o/o/s is possible lift off slowly becuase its the sudden weight transfer off the back axel that causes it to step out. or try your left foot braking.
lol once i goes its a bit of a biatch to control aswell, anypne that has got the back end out in a rw drive car will know u can sort of catch it with the brake and accelerator.
best thing in a front car experencing l/o/o/s is to get the power back down asap to pull the car back into line. fun once you master it.

Buy either H&R or Neuspeed adjustable ARB's and you can tune your cars balance to your hearts content.

the short answer is, dont lift in a bend. Floor it and let the front wheels drag you round!

have a go in rwd drive car and learn how to control the back end makes front wheel drive cars seem so placid in comparison, although a bit less fun as you can't hang the arse out and drive like a loony.
I miss rwd might look into converting my golf

as jhonny says dont lift off.. thats an amatuer driving mistake. try a race school for a day you'd learn a lot. the same principals apply to rear wheel drive cars but its even more important in that case. if you have to lift of the power in a corner then you are not taking that corner at the right speed, line or smooth enough.
