Title: at last fitted my new wheels
Post by: mr.s on 30 March 2006, 20:15
Well its been a winter of polishing my new rims, I couldn't resist it any longer I have put them on my car, I just wont drive it if there is any salt on the roads. Next job is to fit my new brakes...one thing at a time though. polo Gti BBS wheels, polished rims and centres painted in a grey that I tried to match off a civic type R.

Unfortunatly I am down south in Northampton, although I have spoken with MJ interiors on the phone to get a quote, just gotta sell a Kidney and i should be able to get it, still... if I rush and get it all done then I will have nothing to plan for,  I even have a set of boxster seats in my garage, but the jury is still out on them. :undecided: :undecided:

I was after light grey, half leather and alcantara, that way I wouldn't need to get the carpets and lower dash changed, didn't want full leather as I didn't want to burn my bum after leaving it out in the sun. The quote came in around the £1200 mark I believe, it was about 2 months ago that I was quoted. Got the boxster seats so thats always an option, but still not too sure about them, I keep looking out for TT half leather seats on ebay too, one thing is for sure the interior will be done....one day!

Also saw these, but they will not send to the UK...

This seller seems to do a fair bit too

The only problem that I have found buying stuff for the car on German Ebay is that not many of them use paypall, I have previously got a German mate to pay for the items via cash transfer, then post them on to me... got my BBS centre caps that way, and paid only £12 for the set new.

German ebay....I have not had too much trouble with items, other than sorting out payment...in fact just got a set of new mk5 gti stainless and rubber pedals (arrived at the weekend) only cost me £18 arrived in 4 days...! brand new boxed vw items.

Re-trim will bear that in mind, there are sooo many different options, but alcantara is at the top of the wish list at the moment.

wheels....mmmm I read your other post about them took me ages to decide what I wanted was after a set of 16's in the same design but they only seem to appear on mk4 cabrios in the 4 stud design, and I hunted for ages, could not find any, so got the 15s off a polo gti.

thanks for that, I am still at the "parking 2 foot from the kerb" stage with them, don't want to kerb them after spending ages sanding and polishing out the corrosion out the rims.

Nice looking car, Mr S... Those alloys look good on the Mk1's; I think Bronze has got an identical set of those alloys on his cabrio as well?

As for interiors, try this place:

http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/vw/index.jsp?model=25

I was quoted £950 +VAT for a full front-and-rear-seat retrim in black leather, which I thought was quite a good price.

Lookin good mate, good choice on the refurb, look awesome!  And I know what you mean bout the retrim, leather and alcantara is definately the way to go!! Have you checked ebay, a friend of mine got a full set of recaros trimmed in leather and alcantara for not too much if I remember correctly!

thanks Robbo, yes I will definately be going down the alcantara route, did you see the link I placed above about the black leather and blue alcantara covers in ebay.de. at that sort of price if I think it would be worth doing the next time I go over in the Summer. just to see the quality, tho in the pics it does not look too bad.

Will speak to Newton commercials in the morning.
