Title: Computer Warning!!?
Post by: JonnoGti on 30 March 2006, 18:58
Had a warning last night on my tdi. Firstly the battery light came on, then a few secs later it read "Alternator Workshop". Im not mechanical at all so i dont know what this means. however its gone now, but the guard that protects the engine underneath is shagged and hanging down, now when i turn the wheel left or right i get a terrible noise, like the noise of an old car starting up if u get me?? lol any ideas? and whats this alternator do?

the gurad is just a sound deadener does nt really do anything, 50 per cent of cars dont have them its probably hanging coz u mite of floored it over a speed hump or caught it with a twig, on the other hand an alternator holds the charge it kind of liek a battery it produces the current to start ure car kind of thing.

The noise  is probably your power steering belt slipping :undecided:
