when i was 17 my dad gave me my 1st car!, my mum said i could have it on the condition we changed the engine from a 2.0 to a 1.6, all we did was change the rocker cover!, me mum never new!!, oh yeah the car was:
1977 ford capri 2 ltr S (mk2 rectangular lights) it was the jps limited editon, i banged on some 2.8i pepper pot wheels and a cherry bomb exhaust! loverly, well it was at the time! hey i even remember the reg plate VVF205S, well ill get slated now for admiting to owning a capri!!, i was 17 it was free and alot faster than all the other 17yr olds 950 fiesta's, oh yeah it was 12 years ago!! hey ive got some pics will have to get it banged on!! he he he

1.5SXi seat Ibiza (mk1/2 lookalike) Thats what made me love the Golf shape)
Black, 2 door, electric windows, sunroof, alloy wheels-(silver edges with inner parts black), Looked like a mk2 with a jetta front :)
Brought it for a tenner at 16yrs old.
Water pump blown, exhaust backbox hole.
illegal bits -no licence etc.
Ragged the crap out of it till it kept overheating sold it for ?200 after 2 months. RESULT! ;D
Turned 17 and got my mk2 GTi you see in this pic. 8)

1) Mk1 Astra GTE, in White (yes my insurance company did shaft me, being aged 17!)
2) Mods were fairly limited, had windows blacked at Ripspeed (thats how long ago we're talking!), matching rear light clusters and front indicators, exhaust, filter, 15" 6 spoke alloys and.....
3) Phat stereo system!!! Was in my bad old days, when I didn't understand sound 'focus', so I had masses of sub, amps and speakerage in the boot with a pathetic pair of co-ax's in the front doors!!! And yes, it was very cool to both cruise and terrorise!!!
4) Did I think it looked the mutts nuts at the time? Dude, it WAS the mutts nuts!!! I was the only one of my friends who decided to spend the money and buy and insure a hot hatch and the only one who mastered lift off oversteer before his 18th birthday.
5) Of course I did. No comment
6) Of yeah, it was when Yokohama's first became popular, so I had a Big black Yoko sticker (on a white car) on the bonnet, bootlid and a white one in each rear window
To be honest, If I won the lottery, I would buy and restore one of them, to permanantly immortalise my memories of my 'geezerhood' (bit like childhood, but you have the money to buy the proper toys ;))

My first car was m reg rover 216 sli 5 door :o, was quite quick, but the wheels locked up if u so much as looked at the brake pedal.

ok this gets funny...
technically 1st car was a black mini mayfair about 10 years ago, but i never drove it (couldnt drive..) and as i needed the money i flogged it, 2nd car was a '65 beetle project, saved up the money to get it all sorted, then spent the money on driving lessons and a car that actually went.. lol.. so the first car was the red polo 'open air' i bought, no mods really... now after 2 years i've bought my valver :)

2. 1294cc Midget Engine, Austin Princess Carb, Marina Disc brakes, Spax adjustables, Wolfrace Slotmags (13" natch) custom LCB manifold into Str8 thru exhaust system with "cherry bomb" - 90 bhp on rolling road (woo yeh!)
3. moody bass tube in the back - made the aluminum roof vibrate like a mutha
4. I guess I did - it looked stock except the wheels and sounded like a Lister dump truck on idle.

6. I had a pioneer GTi badge on the rear - GTi (with an Omega on it's side as the G)

3. no stereo - engine was so loud it did all the terrorising for me. car wouldnt go over 50 as your fillings would fall out and you'd end up deaf.

A knackered black Mini 1000 with rust where the floor should have been, no brakes & different coloured seats!! When I went to look at it, my mate & I had to give the woman who was selling it a push to get it going, yet I still bought it :o (oh, to be 17 again)
It was completely crap but a great laugh & I was a total hooligan in it, in the end the car met an overdue death when I run the engine dry of oil (in hindsight it was like an act of euthanasia)!
There was no mods unless you count bald tyres as slicks, no chance of getting a girl to even look at it & stickers don't stick very well to rust bubbles, but I still thought I was the "the lick" in it 8)

1.A black Golf Mk1 GTi 1.6
2.I stuck a universal 4" back box on which I regretted strait away because it sounded like a tank. Lucky it fell of within a month.
3.I had no stereo in the car the sound of the engine was all I needed ( I learnt to drive in a 1.1 Metro)
4.It was and always will be the nuts except for a 1.8 engine instead of the 1.6(dam oil pumps)
5.I was forever getting pulled in it. I never did anything silly, Just got stoned with my mates.
6.When I bought the car it had Max Power stickers on the side mirrors which came of as soon as I gave the man his money.
I loved that car soo much but in the end it needed far too much engine work to keep so I sold it to one of my mates who stuck a mk2 16V engine in it. He moved away before he ever finished it and I haven?t seen it since. :'( :'( :'(

little 1.4 corsa, gorgeous dark met green/blue colour
set of 15's, lowered 40mm, sensible s/s exhaust & a lexmaule grille on it
was a nice little corsa for my first car, pity it was only 60bhp!! it was ditched once i got my full NCB after having 2yrs claim free insurance on it!

1970 Beetle 1300, my Dad bought it out a field for ?150 and as he worked for VW it soon became an almost new car. Had Porsche indian red paint, Porsche 356 wheels, very low, retrimmed red interior, colour codd engine and the loudest blaupunkt system you ever did hear. Broke my heart selling it But it was show standard by the time I did!

2. Car was stripped to nothing, new wings, sills and arches - resprayed Black. Cylinder head removed, cleaned, Valves re-ground and put back.
3. No booming sounds.
4. It did look the mutts nuts at the time.
5. Tried to engage in sordid activities but to no avail !

My first car was a winter runner for when I was doing a lot of riding

headlights were tiewrapped on, so used to swing on winding roads
alternator belt was some tightly wound speaker cable
Heater was broken, so I wired in a 12v hairdrier to demist the windscreen
Parcel shelf was covered in silica gel to prevent the back window icing over in winter
Used to slip out of the automatic gearing on right hand bends, so I had to floor it to get it to lurch back in
covered 20,000 miles in 18 months with it though, and still got ?30 from the scrappy when the exhaust fell off!!

Nah, didn't have a stereo - we used to have sing songs instead! Made a great mix of Primal Scream's Loaded and Hey Jude! Used to rag it to college, get mushed then rag it to my mates'.
It was rusty as hell, but it had the most comfortable red interior - bit like Lawrence off Changing Rooms car!
No stickers...

A 1969 vw beetle 1500
standard when i bought it except for the colour(john deere tractor yellow)
Great fun car
drove it newquay to exeter to meet run to the sun 1988 (in the good old days when rtts was 95% vw, an not full of twits like these days) and back to newquay with a cracked engine. it refused to stop, just needed 1/2 litre of oil every 20 miles ;D
kept it for five years and did loads of interior mods and stuck a 1600 engine in it to save on oil costs

J-plate Polo 1.0 Hatchback (start as you mean to go on ;))
It was maritime blue with special 'polo player' graphics on it, and it had 13" alloys....no other mods though.....
And it was sweeeeet :) only the allure of a newer polo made me trade it in.

1. Honda civic 1.1 on an 'M' plate (SLY 540M....1974). White with black vinyl roof :-[
2. Blew the engine up whilst doing 85mph ;D
3. No, just a cheap ?30 radio ::)
4. No, there was more rust than paint. It rusted so much that eventually I was able to see the road between the inner sill and the floor pan........probably just as well I blew it up :o
5. Driving whilst being able to see the road through the floor was dangerous enough for me :o

2) Stratigically located speed tape on the drivers side A piller and driver side door to keep the rain off the fuse box and me.
3) old cassette deck with some sh!t speakers
4) looked more the mutt's arse
5) three of my mates and me went everywhere in that car. constantly in trouble with it. Girlfriend at the time and I spent lot's of time in the back seat and on the bonnet . got ticketed for driving through town with 2 people sitting on the bonnet and 1 on the hood. :)
6) no stickers that i remember
Had lot's of fun in that car. sold it to my neighbor when I bought a Camaro and regretted it so i bought a Scirroco. That old Rabbit was running up to 5 years ago when it finally died.

3.had a goodmans stereo one where you could take only 3/4of the face off, i thought it was so unique just cause you could change the colour from orange to green! an two countem two! 100wt pioneer speakers in the back! ;D

an i have to ad, while i was savin for this beast, i borrowed my dad's mettalic green cortina crusader, which didn't hav a first gear!! an when drivin round canvey is i went the wrong way down a one way street, so slammed it in revers when the cars started hurlin towards me an n smashed the rear light on railings alond the road! oh how we laughed on the wat home! ;D :D

my first car was........ wait for it.......... a mk2 Golf GTi ;D
admittedly it was a 5dr, but it was free. My dad had it on his drive for 6 months trying to sell it and after some nagging gave it me for xmas. It then cost me ?300 to get the fscker on the road and the insurrance was ?1450 TPFT! It was basically bog standard. I put a bit of a better stereo in there, but nothing mega. I hit a tree whilst getting off with the missus driving 5mph down a farm track and bent the wishbone and the wing all up. fixed the wishbone and sold it with the dented wing and bought the one in my sig.

Back in 1991 my first car was a white 1985 C plate XR3i. Bought some Series 1 RS Turbo alloys for it & fitted a Kenwood head unit. Thought it was the canines sphericals at the time.

Metro 1.3 HLE... 4 speed gear box, used to beat so many cars to 10mph... burgandy... She was a beaut guys... Had a glass sunrood, one of the tilt ones, but you could unscrew it and put it in the boot... Wow, thoes were the days... No Mods apart from when the gear leaver fell through the floor... AA towed me back and tied it up with a piece of string, worked a treat til the engin died a few weeks later and had to scrap it :'(
kniterider - You lucky boy.... Rear wheel drive when you were 17, I would have willed myself.... Capri's were COOL 8)

Hehe tis funny I was only talking about this with some mates down the pub about our first cars, how much they cost us to buy and what young peeps spend on their first cars nowadays !..
I know its all relative but it does go to show how much more affluent people are with cash nowadays...
Anyway back to the topic *tries not to hi-jack too much*
Hehe.. this is gonna hurt ;)
1. Ford Capri Mk1 1.6
2. Standardish at first, but eventually a stage three head, lowered suspension and twin choke weber. Pian in the arse as the throttle spring broke one day with my mum in it at the end of a dual carriage way and we hit the bloody roundabout at one hell of a lick with my mother screaming her tonsils out saying I would never be allowed to drive again!! .. Once I got round the roundabout and switched the engine of she realised it wasn't me doing it on purpose and she eventually let me off. Still sh!t the pants off her and my legs we like jelly too :D
3. Hehe no not really.. One day my mate said it would be cool to wire it up to some hi-fi speakers and put them on the back seat.. This was okay for a while until I eventually burnt out the output amplifiers in the car stereo and had to buy a new one! .. Quick lesson learnt in electronics ;)
4. Oh yes.. Well I thought I did, that was until I was beaten down the bloody motorway by some git in a really quick mini !!! .. Pissed me right off so I sold it very soon after that :) Other reason I sold it was because my missus used to hate it when we went out whilst it was raining.. The floor pan had a hole in it and would spray water right up her skirt. Not too chuffed I can tell ya, and took me ages to warm those legs up afterwards ;)
5. Hmmm chased twice down the motorway and caught once.. Second time I was saved because someone behind me had an accident on the motorway and he had to stop quickly !! *wipes brow*
6. No thats one thing I didn't do... Did have the fluffy dice though as my sister bought them for me for Xmas :)
Okay thats it... Beared my soul and awaiting the groans and giggle fits ;)
