Cruising along the oil temp usually sits at 100-102, a couple of degrees hotter on a motorway run. When stuck in traffic it can (although rarely) rise up 112-114, although this soon goes down when you get on the move again.
It has new oil in it and i replaced the oil cooler with a new genuine one a year or so back when this started happening. Previously it had nearly always run at 96-98, rising to 100-102 if I was at 85-90mph on the motorway. This all started after the car had been laid up for 6 months whilst i was out of the country. Since this started happening i have also noticed that the heater is not working properly - after the car has got up to operating temperature the heater then goes cold. I assume this is something to do with the bypass valves but could they be related?
Any ideas of what i could try next? Cheers

Well if water isnt reaching the heater matrix then it will run a little hotter as the matrix is basicly a small radiator. However your temps are fine really and i would not worry.

I know, I know, I know - I shouldn't worry about these things, there are far more important things in this world to worry about...but I do!!!
Thanks for putting my mind at rest

The oil temps sound spot on to me. I've recently changed my stat etc. to bring the oil temps up to those levels.

My valver is doing the same as yours just now. I suspect that the cooling fan is not cutting in and have bought a new sensor to fit when I get time. I would worry about the heater going cold. Does it use a lot of water?
