Title: Warranty in UK on a new MK V
Post by: Rendy on 29 March 2006, 21:02
Here in the US, it's:
4 years/50K miles for new vehicle limited warranty
5 years/60K miles for powertrain warranty
4 years  Roadside assistance
12 months wear and tear.

If I move to the UK, it changes to the standard warranty there.
What are the parameters.
Thanx in advance.

If you buy a new car in the UK from a UK dealer you get:

3 year 60k mile warranty (parts and labour) - Covers almost everything
3 year paint warranty (doesn't cover much really, bird droppings etc are your fault not VWs...)
12 year corrosion warranty. Galvanised shell sorts out the rust
1 year Volkswagen emergency assistance (breakdowns etc)

However, if you're bringing your car here, you'll probably only get 2 year warranty. The reason for this is that all VWs have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty but UK dealers add the 3rd year but limit the mileage.

What does the 12 month wear and tear feature give you?

(What does the 12 month wear and tear feature give you?)

Excessive wear, unexplained breakage.
Here we have had a few cars wearing out brakes before 10k miles, plastic bits breaking, fuel pump issues, clutches imploding before 2K miles, rattles from extreme temps, leather stitching unravelling, etc. . . .

In the UK, rattles, stiching, trims etc all come under the normal warranty. The only exclusion is malicious damage or accidental breakage.

I've never looked into the US warranty before, it's interesting how much it varies..... :nerd:
