With my mk4 i have only got one key. I dont have the metal strip with immoboliser numbers on it so what can i do if anything about getting replacements if anyone knows.
Thanks
Adam

Take your car, V5 registration Document and some ID to the VW Dealers and they will be able to get a replacement sorted. (costs up to £140.00 though)

That isnt too bad. would it be cheaper if i took a spare key along with me like one off of ebay?

I was told that the dealers need to order them as the metal part is 'laser cut' somewhere else. Then when it arrives they use VAGCOM to programme the key to your car. (that's what I was told at VW anyway)

you can get a flipper off ebay, program the buttons to work easily enough. you can also get a blank key lasor cut at any locksmith with the right equipment. the key will work your locks but wont start the car due to the immob chip in the key not matching.
So unless you can programm the chip in your donor ebay key to match your code in the cars ignition barrel the keys pretty useless.
by the way the chip is a tiny glass barrel hidden in the top part of your key and is a tw@t to get apart.

link below was a bit of a guide i did last year to help out the mk2 boys- will help you if you need to dismantle your key?

Expensive trip to the dealers then. Would they need my car for long as i hate leaving it with VW i just dont trust them plus last time i had an additional 40miles on the clock where the fcuk had it been.

They told me it's a 15 min job.

Thats pretty quick for VW, and is t0hat without having the immoboliser number right?
-
They never mentioned that they needed the immobilisor number to me, just the V5 and some proof of I.D.
-
Cheers for the replies guys looks like im off soon to empty my wallet.

if you go in and ask them all they do is fax off when they see your I.D. to vw head office and wait for the fax back from them with your cars code. So it can take 15 minutes if they get the fax back straightaway to program your key, or longer if there being slow at the other end with the fax!
