Had the dreaded MOT today and the car failed miserably
Rear beam bushes, both sides.
Front brake disks scored!!!!!!!!
Steering column bushes insecure
Front suspension arm fecked!!
Front ball joint fecked(same side)
Both front sills corroded to excess!!!!?!!!?!!!!!?!!??!!!!??
Front wheel bearing fecked!!
And the obligatory, number plate light inop!!
That has to be the worst fail i have ever had on any car i have ever had!!!!!!!!!
Its the rusty sills that has pissed me off more than anything. It looks like someone has jacked the car up both sides with a trolley jack directly on the lip of the sills bending and splitting them in the process and causing the rot to set in I'm so pissed off
Ive been quoted £150 for labour plus parts. Which actually doesn't seem bad when i read back all that needs doing but I've known manager and most of the lads at the garage for about 10 years so im getting a trade price on the labour but its still a shock to the system i can tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlucky mate... atleast you can get it fixed cheap :)
-
Gutted but thats damn cheap for all that work doing I was reading it waiting for the scrapyard in the sky storyline :)
-
arrhhhh the joys of owning a car !  If you spend less than £500 a year on the car, you've got a good one !
and that seems a cheap bill to me btw !!
-
Yeah i spose i should be happy at the price quoted, im just shocked at all the stuff it failed on!!!! And it'l be satisfying knowing the cars A1 when all the work is done

Na, ive known these guys since way back when i was in the motor trade my self and Dave the manager actualy expected me to be doing all the work myself but sadly i dont have the time to do major stuff anymore with the job i now have. And i dont have a workshop to do the work anymore  If it was later in the year with longer/warmer nights i would have done most of the stuff but i cant grumble at the price anyway.

Yeah i know what you mean. The thought of being ripped off always gets to me big time but i was actually stood watching and chatting to the chap doing the test and he pointed out every fail to me as he found it(i felt sicker and sicker by the minuet )

look on the bright side, at least your car has the faults being found on it otherwise it's a death trap !

To right, it'l be a nice feeling driving out of the garage with a fresh ticket knowing its spot on for another year at least

Very Good Price Mate.

I personally don't like driving cars with faults, no matter what the cost. If you look after a car, you respect it more.

They encountered a strange problem today. When they fitted the new disks and pads the calipers catch the wheels!!!!!!!!!!????? They had to fit the old pads back in to get the wheels to turn freely. Whats that all about????? Anyone got an idea whats going on?? The wheels are 7.5/17". Luckily the old pads are ok so it will pass with them. I supose il just have to take the new pads in to work and linish them back until they fit ok!!

My 87' Grey Valver I used to have failed its MOT not once, not twice but three times!! so I scrapped it!
-
With the extra thickness of the new pads the calipers will sit a bit further out so if clearance was tight on wheels before that would be enough to make them catch.
I'd get those new pads linished down as soon as possible as you wont do the new disks any good with the used pads.

Fresh ticket now on  It drives so much better now that the three inches of play in the rear beam is gone   The rear end is no longer trying to over take the front when the weight shifts round the bends anymore  It now handles just as it should on its boge turbos,,,,,, feckin awesome
Just got to fit a new rear engine mount and it will feel nice and tight again
