Hi Chopper GTI.
I had a 4-Motion from June 2003 to March this year. I had a problem with the dash lights, they would flicker & a nuisance when driving a night. The dealer agreed I had a problem, but had no fix. I was told it did the same thing on two other 4-Motions the dealer had in stock. VW UK were involved & wrote me a letter apologising for my dissatisfaction, but could not help either!
The only other thing I was not happy with was the gear changes. In the morning the second gear would be notchy. Again I was told this was a characteristic of the vehicle.
I have purchased a Mk5 GTI & opted for the DSG gearbox as I am not happy with the 6 speed gearbox. By the way, the same issue applies to the TT as they use the same gearbox!
The car sounds a shambles!! But in all honesty, the car was great. It never broke down & the ride comfort was good. You have the benefit of 4WD, and the car pulls from low speeds. If only the MPG could have been better. 22-25 around town & 30-33 on the motorway.
I am sure you will enjoy your car. You never know it could have been mine previously!!!

My lights on the dash used to flicker, I just changed the dimmer switch over and the problem was solved

cheers guys , i have just traded down from a mk 5 GTI, due to impending house move... boo... still paid 21k sold for 18k ran it for 10 months so not a bad loss and i had my fun....!
have paid £6k for the v6 4 motion on an x plate with 59k miles and full vw service history, although its never been cleaned inside (grey leather yuck) and both back wheel arches have trolley scatches on, so first thing will be to get them sorted....
i think i got a good deal on it?

I know depreciation is steep but £3k in 10 months i couldnt bear buying a new car knowing that. Sounds like a fair price you got, have you got any pictures.

That is excellent for a new car sourced at list price... It may seem steep compared with running an old £5k car, but bear in mind there are no other costs - no repairs, no road tax, no tyres, no exhaust etc etc... I was planning to wait and buy a GTi when they lose their 'newness' and start hitting early teens. I am kind of disappointed that the whole Golf range is getting the GTI style front end - IMO the GTI isn't special enough as it is.
BTW - I had a V6 for a short time and aside from fuel consumption and feeling a tad heavy, thought it was a nice bus. I don't know what the prices are like, but it seems like a lot of car for the dosh - and a car that will probably always be sought after and could be a cheap R32 alternative with a few tweaks.

cheers guys, i heard the v6 4 mot was a tad heavy, - picking it up tomorrow, will post picks soon, have picks of my old GTI, not sure how to post them though! anyone help?
I thought loosing 3G in 9 months was ok, although some dealers are selling 05 plates with 10k on for 20 k , it did take 4 weeks to sell but i figured most people are getting on finance and don't have 18K cash kicking around so it was a case of finding the right person... i will miss the GTI, but i did have fun in it...

Love the sound of the V6. Would'nt mind getting one myself actually.
To put your pictures up it's easiest to log onto photobucket.com (it's free) then copy and paste the picture from there. difficult to explain but do that bit first then come back on here for info on the next step.
(I managed to do it so it cant be that hard!!)
