Title: Performance Please :)
Post by: TwistedAspect on 24 March 2006, 22:28
Hi there...me again :)

One for the buffs out there...Got meself and 8v GTI with a PB engine (Digifant)

What would be the cheapest and simplest ways to get some more juice out of the girl once the teething problems are sorted? She is COMPLETELY STANDARD under the hood at the moment...a bit of a blank canvas. I certainly don't have the funds to go for an all out engine swap for say a 1.8T lump or VR6 so I want to get the most out of the metal I have

Thoughts please :)

Jay

The 2.0L conversion is popular and reasonably cheap at the mo. If the gods of money are kind i am looking at a 2.0L bottom end and getting my head ported and polished. About £500 it is looking like..    Depending on how kind the money gods are i am also thinking a camshaft then later solid engine mounts and a stainless manifold.

Easy things are drilling the air box (or induction kit if you prefer although not everyone likes these, i have had no problems with my K&N) and putting an exhaust on. To be fair these won't really add much performance but they give you the sounds as though they had!

I have all the kit required to rebuild your Mk3 2L bottom end. And bits required to convert the bottom end of you PB 8v MK2 head.

All parts are new unless stated.

Included in the kit:
Con Rod Bearings
Head Gasket
Sump Gasket
Sump Gasket
Cam Seal
Crank Seal Front and Rear
Head bolts
Sump Bung
Sump washer
Vac Hose
Oil Filters (2x)
Oil Semi Synth (2x)
Blue Hylomar
Cam Belt
Fan Belt
Water Pump
Oil Pump
Piper Cross Oil Breather (Used)
And a few other bits.

I was going to do the conversion before i sold the car.. Everyone who does it ravs about it.. I'm disappointed i never got the chance to do it.

You need a Mk3 Golf 2L Engine, or Vento, i got one from a Vento.. less likely to be thrashed. Cant remember what engine code u need.. but others im sure will advise you. If your removing the engine its worth reconditioning as much as you can as the engine is going to be in two.. Bits above is what you need for the conversion.. Minus the engine of course.. Ive got some Samco Style hoses too if your interested.

Let me know..

Cheers

KnobbY!

i'd just get it breathing better, get a decent exhaust and replace your panel filter with a decent 'performance' filter, like k&n. sod the 2ltr bottom end for the moment, you'd get more noticable and useable fun out of a g60 head and if you can stretch to it a wilder cam. it'll rev much happier like that.
