Can anyone tell me what the difference is? What has the mk1 GTI got that the mk2 driver doesn't? And are they practically the same engine?

Completely different Engines.
For a start the 1.6 GTI is injection.
And you will be lucky to find a 1.6 GTI Mk1, if you do make sure its a 4 speed gearbox. Rare as! :cool:
My cousin had one then just sold it and made a massive profit!

4 Speeds are rare but 1.6's are well common - most of the "1.8's" i've looked at when i needed to buy a car have actually been 1.6's
The Actual block will be similar looking on the outside - thats about it :kiss:
