Title: Golf gti 8v Front Grill
Post by: 92Mk2Gti on 23 March 2006, 11:12
Hi all

I busted my front grill this morning, pushed it all back into place and it's ok but eveytime i look at it i

Buying a new one off ebay to replace it, is it an easy job, anything else I should look for while i'm there. All lights are still in tact and work correctly.

Anyone have a spare front grill??? :embarassed:

yeah i got a spare front grill, twin headlamp, genuine vw, with red stripe round it, exactly the same as the one in your sig! piece of doo doo to replace, pop the bonnet and there will either be clips or little screws holding it in place, once the top is free the bottom will pop out. takes under a minute!

Very easy job to do.....one thing to watch though is when offering the grille up to fix it to the car, on each end are small plastic "tangs". Don't get these caught as they can snap quite easily and stop the grille sitting right.....trust me, the voice of experience here (been there, done that....oops!!!)

Joe, arn't you going to warn him about remving his inner spots and fixing them onto the new grille ?
He will need a new fixing kit from the dealer! Otherwise he risks temporary insanity !

Trick is to put some WD40 on em and leave to soak for a bit, then go at the clips with som large pliers.  Get a good firm grip, then apply firm even pressure and they'll come off mostly intact.  If a few break, can just get a new fitting kit from VW later on :)
