ok just put my fogs in and put new bulbs in, being a 90 spec golf i had the loom ready for the fogs, i have the switch and all that so as far as i can tell it should work, its not the fuse cause the rear one still works, i do have an uprated headlight loom, does that make any difference? if so what do i do to make it work?
-
The relay is probably missing, it should be in position 10 :)
-
ah ok, what do i ask for at apd then, just a relay? and wheres possition 10 is it obvious? :undecided:
-
Position 1 is top left and position 12 is bottom right, I'm sure you can work out the rest ;)
I think the relay you need is #52, do you not have any scrappys near you?
-
just been to the breakers and ther was a 90 spec gti there, so i got the relay from position 10 on its fuse box, it was a 53, and my front fogs still dont work, out of intrest in the position 10 before was a plastic thing with a grey wire going into it, what do i do with that wire once the relay takes its place? also why else wouldnt it work now i have the relay, i have new bulbs, the relay, everythigs plugged in so now im confused

I think that plastic thing is just a jumper to make the rear fogs work on lesser models! Does the relay click when the lights/switch are turned on? Oh it might be worth checking you have a fuse for the lights too, and it isn't blown. I can't remember if there is a seperate fuse for the front fogs?
Next thing to check is the plug under the header tank, it should be a 2 pin connector with a white and a yellow wire, make sure thats plugged in and is making a good connection. Then follow it down to the 2 fog lights. Next thing to check is the earth lead is securly connected to the body of the foglamp housing, then try another foglight switch. I assume you have the headlight switch on? ;)
Ideally what you need is a multimeter to make sure you're getting voltage to the foglight plugs :)
-
ah ok ill check that stuff, yeah its fuse 10 for fogs according to my fuse box cover, it just says "fogs" so i assume that means both front and rear, an it aint blown plus my rear fog works anyway, relay doesnt click i dont think, do they break?
-
right, behind that round coolant thing theres a plug hanging there coming of a thick wrap of loads of other wires, it has a brown and a white wire going onto it, i see nothing to plug into it anywhere tho, ive looked all over and cant see what goes into it, does the uprated headlight loom make any difference here?
-
ive just realised the problem, correct me if im wrong but i dont have the fog light loom afterall and ive plugged my fogs into something to do with moving headlights? so what i could do is cut the loom that is plugged into my fogs and extend them to reach that connected behind the round water thing and connect that with a few spades? am i on the right track now?
-
ah that'll be the problem then, you used the 3 pin connector hanging behind the headlights yeah? All you need to do is run a length of wire to that plug under the header tank :)

done! finally it works, cheers for the help, i bodged a loom together
