yup its another non starter, my bad8v didnt want to start this morning
fuel pump, relays, immobiliser, all seem to function OK, turning over fine, finally started after pumping the accelerator pedal. oh the dizzy cap was ok too.
would the pumping of the pedal imply a dodgey throttle position switch(is that enough to not start?)?
or maybe the flow meter?
using Jamex 'sock' air filter.
runs perfectly other than that, and did so after starting today eventually
-
I'm not 100% sure, but could there be ice forming in the air filter that wouldn't form if you had a std replacement filter in the original airbox?? Just a thought...
-
mmm have had that before, but this is from cold start, started the car after it sitting for about 4 1/2 hrs and it took 3 or 4 turns to start. thanks for the reply, you can always get consolation 20 other people had no ideas at all
thanks mowgli

mine had this problem 2 yrs ago and it turnrd out to be the coolent temp sensor(about £15 from a steeler)
-
temp sensor eh, ok, well it does seem to start better the hotter the engine is, so it def' seems to be temp related.
i will see what happens in the morning when the engine is cold. must try to get the fault codes read.
thanks for the sugestion.
-
yup still took about 1 minute (combined time) of turning over to start, i wonder if it is damp in the throttle position switch. :undecided:
-
I have just changed the Temp sender in my car after getting the codes read, said something about ?spoiradic readings.
I believe the guy said the car will not run without it,some sort of safety feature, maybe your has an intermitant fault on the sender?,might be worth changing for how much they cost and take like 1 minute to change.
But im begining to lose hope in the easy fixes, damn makes you wish you had a mate with a Vag-Com
-
thanks Golf', i am feeling a bit sporadic today :undecided:
i think i will go down the sender route, is that the one on the rad'?
-
Nitro, on my golf its up the top front of the head ontop of the thermostat housing, mines a 2l 8v AGG lump.
part number 6U0919501B
-
thanks Golf, mine is a 2E, so i will check, thanks for the info anyway.
it has started fine the past two mornings
the only things i did (for the record) were :
1. wiggle the temp sender(?) connection on the top right of the rad.
2. undid the flow meter, coil, distr', plugs, sprayed them with cleaner and then with an electrical damp proofer and dried and re-fitted them.
3. sprayed the coil and leads with a damp proofer.
unfortunately it would have been good to do these one at a time to monitor the result, but thats a bit of a luxury when you need to get to work isnt it!
all i can say is thanks for the replies and watch this space.....
hows the ignition sw' doing Golf?
