Just been shopping and had to fill the car up with petrol. Its wasnt low and the warning message hadnt come on. It was fine going there but on the way back ... different car!! It was shaking the whole car everytime I put my foot on the accelerator and if I had to stop the whole car would vibrate. No warning lights have come on but it sounds like a beetle rather than a golf. There was a smell like something was burning as well ... any ideas?
-
you def put the right fuel in didnt you?
-
yeah .. that was my first thought .. but it wasnt that low and the petrol pump was definitely green as it was the BP ultimate.
-
Sounds like an electrical fault to me, turn the engine off, and check every connection you can find!
-
are you getting any vibration through the clutch ? any spluttering from the engine ?
-
yeah vibration through the clutch and the engine is shaking like a rattle.
The AA have been and he reckons one of the coil packs needs replacing. This sounds expensive ???
-
sounds like a bad fill of the dregs seen as it didn't do it before maybe picked some crud up in the tank?
-
I doubt you were able to get diesel in your car, as the nozzle should be too big to go into your filler pipe..... Although BP do do an Ultimate Diesel! :undecided:
This is a long shot, but there was a Tesco near me which had it's main unleaded tank filled up with diesel, courtesy of the delivery man, which in turn, led to a fair few repair bills coming Tesco's way!
Maybe this happened to you. I'd contact the petrol station in case anyone else has mentioned it.

Sounds like a coil pack to me, did the AA tell you which one was down as there are 4?
Did one of mine in January £17 plus VAT from VW Dealers
-
The software the AA man had didnt work on my car unfortunately as he said they only work on cars from 2000 onwards. I guy with the VAG COM software was meant to be coming round today to confirm whether it was the coil packs and which one it is but as its snowing here that's not very likely!
£17 plus VAT sounds ok I was thinking that it would cost a lot more - roll on the summer thats all I say !!!
-
Things aren't going well ... the VAG com doesnt display and error messages
- the MAF has been replaced but didnt fix the problem
- the spark plugs have been replaced but didnt fix the problem
- the injectors are being tested to see if they are goosed
... they havent added up the bill yet but I'm thinking its at least £200
-
if its a coil pack, unplugging one at a time will tell you which one is naff.
i might be reading this totally wrong but it does seem like you're describing a physical tremor/vibration, rather than a misfire. that to me screams flywheel problems.
-
Whooopie .... car is fixed!!!
Had to replace the MAF, a coil pack, spark plugs and finally the ignition module.
£350 in all - a very expensive fix.
The ignition module was faulty which was causing an excessive amount of petrol into the cylinders which was causing all the problems.
Thanks for all your help ...

like ivor says, bp ultimate diesel is also green :(
i almost stuck the nozzle in once, then moved pumps at the last second coz i realised! GRRR @ BP
