I went to VW today to find out what size the hex bit/alan key is for taking off the gearbox drain plug and they fcuked me of saying they didn't know. Surely it would have only taken the bloke a couple of minutes to ask a fitter or have a quick look on the computer?
Anyway, does anyone know what size it is? Many thanks

I can't remember off hand what the size is - but GSF sell them as that is were I bought my from, for about 8.00 pound.

Its ok, went to halfords and bought a 17mm and it fits. Cheers anyway.

As said, 17mm and there is a special 3/8th drive bit that I have bought.
Used to use a 17mm allan key before buying the proper tool. If really stuck, you can also make a tool with a 17mm sized bolt and a couple of nuts locked on.

I have used the nut and bolt idea before and its good however I did not have any nuts or bolts in my garage. Got the tool now though. Thatnks for your help.
