im using one of the bolts/nutts that holds the rear cluster in place, it touches the body of the car so scrapped paint off a bit n stuck em there

or where the first aid kit usually bolts in. there are places around those locations on both sides.

so am i mate, and I've got mine same place as golfchick.... Im stripping mine all out in the week any way to finish off the install properly
-
some one has said earthing on the head unit??
could this cause this??
-
yes possibley. it's down to the poor connection on the actual earth therefore the signal trys to find other routes to earth and goes down the wrong parts of the unit. Sometimes get so bad it burns out the earth tracks on your RCA connections. :(
-
am i right in thinkin that the black wire on the mk loom is earth??, could i cut into this and use the earth block vw kindly put under the steering wheel??
-
If it is the earth block then yeah you could use that
I drilled a hole in my wheel well and dremmeled the paint away and then stuck a big bolt with washers either side for my earth point. I'm using the standard earth and power cable for the headunit and at the moment use a Passat battery to chassis to engine earth cable + fixings which are about to be upgraded to 0g cable from chassis to battery and 2g from engine direct to battery as well, oh and I get no noise
Also check you have a good battery to chassis earth.
-
cheers js was looking at the earth that sits just behind the battery tray and its looking well corroded, not a good sign
-
Get the sandpaper out and clean it all up, then after attaching a new earth cable chuck a load of copper grease on top

that ca be tomorrows job lol, my car is getting loads of attention while im signed off
