Title: Help, 8v wont run!
Post by: Kinetic Dan on 09 March 2006, 17:57
Hi, i have an '87 8v, which recently died on the M3 motorway, much like it had run out of fuel, although it hadn't.

I checked, there is spark, but fuel is not getting to the injectors. I checked connections to the metering head, fuel is getting it, and down to the part which looks like a pump on the front of the engine block, and back up to the metering head. However I loosen off any of the four braded lines on the meter head, no fuel comes out when the engine is cranked. I've taken the meter off and stripped it down for any obvious sign, can anyone help as to the problem?

I did suspect that, but the fuel is pumping back up the return when I spin the engine?

i had similar problems so i swapped the ecu with one from a nother car.  it cost me nothing to cheack and it solved the problem.  might be something to try sooner rather than later.  dont know if it'll work but it could be related

k-jet 8v doesnt have an ECU?

The local VW 'specialist' reckons its the metering head?

Sounds like a metering head fault to me, what happens if you lift the flap manually when cranking?  Haynes has a section on how to set the flap properly.  The bit in front of the airbox will either be a fuel filter or accumulator, the main pump is under the car.

Does the pump prime when you turn the key?

When uncliping the airbox lid and cranking the engine, I can feel the flap jumping up and down. When pushing the flap upwards, nothing changes, not even a cough or splutter...
