Hi, first time here but I hope you guys can offer some advice.
I've just collected my GTI (05, DSG, 10K) today, and it drives great with no obvious problems (other than the odd rattle). However, after getting home and flicking through the log book I got a suprise when I saw that someone had drawn a map of the Nurburgring track on the back page of the service log, along with a note that the car had been 'tested to it's absolute limit' alongside some lap times. They'd also written the date, which was only a couple of months after the car had been registered.
So, do you think this (if genuine) could result in any long term problems and do you think it'd be worth exchanging it for another GTI? It was brought from VW so there shouldn't be any problems exchanging it within 30 days.

interesting....do you know who the previous owner is?? might be worth trying to contact them to confirm.
I'd check the brakes (has the brake fulid been changed since?) suspension, stuff like that as they will have been given a very hard time if driven 'briskly' round the Ring.

The previous owner was another VW dealership, so I'm not sure if I'd be able to get info from them.
I'll be going back to the dealership today to say what they've got to say about it. At the very least I want a new service book as I'm sure the 'note' would affect re-sale value in the future.
Thanks for the reply.

get the dealerships's name and number and phone them!! You have every right as the new owner to request information about the histroy of your vehicle!!
on a side note - what sort of lap times were they!!??

Mate, you just spent A LOT OF MONEY for a near new car - this is exactly why I bit the bullet and ordered a new GTI - and if I were you I would take it back ASAP    For someone to take the car to the Nurburgring only 2 months in into ownership is crazy and shows their attitude to the car.  Who knows if it was run in at that stage and whether it was run in properly at all - raises too many suspicions and questions in my mind.  This is the problem with buying a 1 year old GTI - or any other fast car for that matter - as it may have been thrashed to within an inch of its life throughout the year and then offloaded to the dealer for some poor unsuspecting soul to pick it up.  I am planning to part-ex my GTI - which I pick up in April - next year for the Anniversary model, but it will be driven sensibly - and given a good workout occasionaly    ÂÂÂ

I am sure that a cursory phone around VW Dealers will land you another GTI as they are beginning to appear in the showrooms and previous owners part-ex for the R32 or a new GTI

Hi sn.
I personally would reject the car if VW's policy is the car can be returned within 30 days.
I purchased an 8mth Polo for my wife a few years back & when the log book arrived, the previous owners were a rental company. I decided this was not an issue (How wrong was I) & kept the vehicle for another year. The car felt loose & I wouldn't be surprised if it was also thrashed (Not around the ring mind you!)
It sounds as though you will look after your GTI, no doubt cleaning it every week!! So I would not take the chance & return the GTI & get another, otherwise you may regret keeping your car like my wife did with her Polo (Check the VW site & you will see loads).

return it... return it... return it... now!!! Seriously, it really isn't worth the risk and thats my honest advice - I wouldn't gamble with a £18k+ car
-
What lap times did it get :laugh:
-
lol lap times
f**king Cu*ting dealers should have looked proprerly
REJECT it
-
return the car :angry:
but first give us the laptimes
-
Reject or get some new pads/discs and tires atleast!! Threaten the dealer with exposure? Not yourself mind
-
Forget the break pads and disks - I'd be very worried about long term damage to the engine if its been thrashed and not run in properly. At the end of the day it just shows the previous owners attitude to the car - have it for a year, thrash the living daylights out of it and part-ex at the local dealers for another victim.

Just been reminded by my misses...
Our 306 GTi-6 which was a brand new motor had over 300 miles on the clock, at the time we thought nothing of it as we were so excited about our first new motor. But that car was a dog and we found out through the grapevine that our car was used on track before we got it!!!! Gutted......... It would explain the issues we had, from brakes to steering the motor was a mess..... Never again!
Let us know how you get on with the rejection... Let them know your a Golf Forum user and will name and shame, it can work wonders....

I took my Skyline out to the Nurburg Ring and thraped it round there...
defo a good idea to uprate brake fluid, pipes and pads. Oil cooler, better oil and maybe even power steering fluid depending if yours has a cooler or not.

Im sure the engine can take it but it definetly needs time to be run in. If it was a good price do a full service and hopefully everything should be fine. By the way how much did u get it for?
