My dear wonderful car has a BAD misfire problem!!!
But....... its only at a certain time.
Car starts fine from cold but about half way hot it misfires badly as if its only firing on one or two cylinders.
Once its fully warmed up and had some revs its fine and drives normally with no decernable loss of power.
At first I thought it was damp and have sprayed all the usual electrics with Damp Start.
Now I'm at a loss to understand what this problem is! Could there be some kind of staged choke?
Any help gratefully received! :embarassed:
-
interesting... has the throttle body got that choke on the top? is it sticking perhaps??
-
It could be the coil lead breaking down. I had one on my merc that only did it at a certain temp and then would be fine again!!!!!!!! Try another lead, Or it could be the coil pack

Dom - have checked that and a liberal spray of WD40 on it!
vwagain - changed plugs and leads last weekend so unless I have a duff brand new lead then it cant be that!
-
did it do it with the old leads?
-
No! This only started yesterday and as I said at first I thought it was just damp had got in but now I know its got to be something else!
Must be electrical but dont know what!
-
have you got the old leads? swap them over?
-
Hmmmm yea well if I go and rescue them from the Bin collection!!
I'll give that a try and let ya know!
But surely that would happen at all revs and temps? This is a very specific time period. And it doesnt happen straight away from cold.
-
if it still happens maybe check the oil temp on the mfa? this might be a bit more accurate than the water temp gauge...
-
Len, if it didn't do it before you changed the leads then i suspect that might be your problem!
-
Well guys it aint the leads!
And its getting worse!!!!!
On way home tonight it started to misfire on take up, when you have slowed slightly and then go to just give it a nudge to pick up again.
Have trawled through other problems in various threads on here and what about the mass air sensor?
Now i've got a feeling I had the same problem with my Mi16 but that was a while ago and I cant really remember, but that has a similar devise on the inlet manifold??????
Clutching at straws here!
-
maybe that or coil?
-
Well its really bad today! Started off to work and it didnt clear at all, so turned around and headed home!
Gotta try and get it fixed today! A mate is gonna check it at work (ATS) so keep fingers crossed.

Pissed off and annoyed really coz it just didnt feel like that! The symptoms were so specific that I didnt for one second think it was the rotor!
