Title: Where best to mount a CD Changer in MKII Golf GTi
Post by: Rusty! on 06 March 2006, 22:14
I am trying to figure out the best place to mount a Blaupunkt 10 CD changer in my MKII Golf GTi.  It seems as if the boot is the only option, but i would prefer not to impact on the usable boot space to much.

The key issues with the boot are the proximity of the fuel tank and the spare wheel well reducing the available floor area.

Any suggestions and/or pictures would really help.

Thanks

A few ideas:

Glovebox
Under the dash
Under a seat

And of course the boot as you said

easy to do and easily knocked when putting things in the boot.... Bolt it straight to the back of the seat :D

Harder to do, but more professional.... Make a small bracket which would mount the changer under the parcel shelf support. It would be held up out of the way so wouldn't get knocked or damage if you put a lot of things in the boot.

If doing a boot install.... making up a MDF panel which would cover all the suspension turret. A changer could be mounted behind it with the front panel poking though. Or cut a door into the panel which hides a Changer, amp, sat nav, etc.

Mount the changer in the glove box if you don't mind loosing the space to put things.

Might be worth buying some foam and create a pod just big enough to slot the changer in to in the glove box.  The foam will also help prevents CDs from jumping if you are on a bumpy road/are running stiffened struts and springs.  It'll look tidy, plus your passenger can change CDs with ease if you get bored of the ones that are in the changer.
