New 4 ch amp on the way and I am thinking of fixing over the offside wheel arch in the boot.
Has anyone done this?
Had a look behind the carpet and there;s not a lot of room so i'm thinking I may have to make some sort of bracket type arrangement to fix it to!
Any ideas?
Or suggestions?
-
I've done this, but had to make a bracket to move it out about an inch so it fit in the gap, looks good and don't lose any boot space.
Found it a bit of a bugger to get the wires round behind the carpet though

like this you mean?....

it's easy to make a panel which will cover this area and you can poke the top of the amp through so it's on show :)
-
Dont want to panel it.
Mr Blue - No on the other side where petrol filler and central locking is. The side you show is where my new bass box is!
Tim - yes that was my thinking.
The trouble is the amp I have selected being a 4 channel is a bit on the large side and I may have to bring the bracketry out a fair way!
-
Well I found out the dimensions of my chosen amp and cut a piece of MDF to that size. It will fit where I want it to go tilting slightly backwards at the top. (outwards)
So the mounting brackets wont need to be too big!
On that basis I have ordered the amp and sub, so I will post another thread when its all fitted and working!
-
The sub and amp arrived today so gonna get working on it this weekend.

maybe you can slip that splitter on while your at it and get us some piccies too!

In between the decorating and finishing the wardrobes and keeping my Golf on the road............

Still not quite finished - wiring up the amp, plus fixing the CD multichanger, which is probably gonna go against the back seat, but not decided on that yet!
But have connected up the sub to the old amp and its O.K. but needs the power of the new amp to be really good.
-
Well it sounds sweet!!!
Billy and I wired it all up yesterday and gave it a bit of a test!
Yep! sounds good - all that work and time and effort worth it in the end.
Funny thing happened though........
After we had it running for about 15 mins it all went dead!!! Headunit stopped working!
Still had power to some bits like the motorised face, but not producing any sounds. So pulled it out again and played with wires, no obvious breaks etc. Then I was playing with the ignition key and made it work. But only by tweaking the key! So it became obvious that it was the ignition live had developed a fault!!!???? Dont know what or why, so all we did was wire it up as permanent live and no probs!

Finished pics I never got around to adding!
