Just had my renewal through and it has gone up again. My insurance now stands at £379. I have 7 years no claims, been driving 10 years and have a clean license.
It has gone up £45 ish becuase I have another years no claims, theres justice for you. Insurance said they can do better....... heres the catch "if I find it cheaper elsewhere".
So much for HIC there getting binned this year.
Standard GTi 8v lowered.... thats it.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks very much

and also give a few other companies web sites a go. I usually find tesco very good.

Also give Greenlight a go, very cheap for me last year :)
-

Hi mate, sorry to hear about your renewal, i work on sales for hic but if you wanna pm me your policy number and/or a phone number i can look into it for you if you want. Renewals is not really my dept but bet i could get something sorted out.
Hope this helps, cheers
Martin
ps. be wary of standard insurers, dunno if you have an agreed value with us or not but insurers like tesco, swiftcover, post office etc will only usually pay out book price on a mk2 (so about 300!) and most i,ve seen on here are worth a lot more. Pay for what you get sometimes....
-
700 pounds on the audi fully comp from Norwich Union
p.s Len is cheap!
-
Insurance is always a bit hit and miss - even spelling your name wrong on an online quote can mean a price difference beleive it or not
Elephant.co.uk come up cheapest for me
-
Like Martin mentions - you need to be careful on what cover you are actually getting. Pay 3k for your mint late mk2, insure it with some average broker and get 750 when you write it off  What an ethusiast actually values a car at and what 'normal' price the insurers work on can be a long way out.
-
For myself, quite a young driver i have found Admiral (also elephant and bell) very good all with differing prices which is weird  But as martinb said agreed value is important as i remeber my first car the fiesta i bought for £700 was only worth £300 when it got written off. Even though i did buy it back for £50 fixed it for another £50 and sold it for £600

I've just had my renewal come through from Elephant, they quoted me £516 TPFT for me (8yrs driving, 3yrs no claims, clean license) and my wife (provisional license) on my 1.4 N reg Polo. But Admiral quoted me £430 and best still AA quoted me £331.
Interestingly all the quotes I got off Confused.com came out as about £10 higher than the quotes I did myself.
Gonna look into some more tomorrow.

Try Sharp Insurance at www.sharpinsurance.co.uk they are a broker, but I have insured my 16v through them and they are really good. Wife insured her 1.8 16v Corrado through them also, 34, 7yrs NCB Fully comp, £262, includes windscreen, uninsured loss recovery, and key insurance, covers ALL of your keys, if they get stolen or lost, and are unrecovered, they will pay for a locksmith to come out and change all of your locks, to a value of £1500.

I did the MoneySupermarket thing today, mine runs out 28th March.
I have been with Tescos for the last 3 years and their quote came in at £285
Post Office = Â£252
Swift Cover £275
All with Protected no claims - I have 8 years, legal cover and an average replacement car. The Post Office one also guarantees repairs for 3 years.
So looks like i'll be switching!
Oh yea the PO one is actually with Norwich Union, so why cant I get a cheaper quote direct from them? Crazy!
-
Elephant gave me the best quote so far for my scirocco scala - £212 TPFT with 5 yrs no claims and 3 points. I get loads of money off if you stick the mrs on as a named driver - about £100! She probably isn't going to even drive it.. Admiral was next best - £225, but I think that was fully comp. If you get a quote from elephant, take your phone off the hook, cos they phone me almost daily. I keep telling them I'm repairing it before it goes back on the road! P'raps they're just being friendly.
-
Funny you should say that about sticking the Mrs on to get it cheaper. When El Presidente was looking for insurance for her 'Raddo, she got a quote from Diamond, you know, the ones that make out all blokes are kamikaze pilots in training, expecting it to be really cheap. Not only was it about £80 more expensive than the quote from Sharp, it was cheaper if she put me on the policy. They don't tell you that in the adverts

used to be with admiral for donkeys..... (elephant is the same company by the way...), they were good, but ive just ditched them for these folks
http://www.onequotedirect.co.uk/
i now insure a damn nice motorbike, and a diesel work mobile for alot less than the price of my mk4 gti...
they may be crap i dunno but there fine to me
