:undecided:
Hello folks, here's the deal, I'm getting my car chipped and want to know who you think would win this drag race before i show myself up!!
My car is an S reg Mk4 1.8T GTI APR tuned (approx 200bhp) with Milltek cat back, forge dump valve 18" wheels everythin else standard. My mate has, as far as he's telling me, a completely standard spec W reg 2.8 V6 4Motion.
Now i know he's got 4Motion so there will be nil wheel spin, but saying that his car will be heavier. I'm pretty sure that even tho my car is lighter, his extra power and 4wheel drive will win it for him.
Anyone compared these two before?
thanks :embarassed:

close I think...do you both have manual 'box ?
Do it in the bone dry or your in big trouble....... !
-
IIRC, 4 motion's have 204 bhp, but suffer badly from 'transmission loss' ie. powering 4 wheels.
In the dry, I'd say you'd beat it, but in the wet, it would be down to your throttle control. But still, it would be close in the wet. I'd fancy my chances in mine. (202 bhp)
I pulled away ever so slightly from a modded Civic Type R in mine, & I just don't think a standard 4M would do that.

Yeah we both got manual boxes, mines a bit sticky going into first sometimes, but after that its fine. I was hoping it would be close, and it would def be in dry conditions on a straight drag. Thats somethin else which is annoying me, Honda Civic Type R 0-60 in about 6.6 seconds on paper. That would mean realistically even in a 200bhp i wouldn't beat one unless i caught it by surprise.....I'd have to jump out from behind a lorry or somethin to do one of the little Jap mobiles !!

Yep, the newer ones are quoted as 6.6, the older as 6.8. Evo has the 4M at 7.1. (I would estimate yours/mine to be around the 6.6 mark. *EDIT* (In the dry, of course).
The thing about the CTR's is, that you have to rag the ar*e off them to get them going, while your turbo will kick in MUCH earlier. (VTEC doesn't kick in until about 5800 RPM!!!)

ps I'd think you'd be surprised against the CTR. My mates was running 210 bhp, & as I said earlier, I slightly pulled on him. :smug:

Hey Flipmode. When are you racing Ian then!
-
It'll be a drivers race if you're doing a standing start. Hold the revs at around 3.5k and almost dump the clutch (watch that wheelspin!) Get out of 1st as soon as you can, 2nd is where you'll pull away... if your tyres are good and the road is grippy you can almost floor it right away in 2nd with minimum traction loss. Hold 2nd until you get past 60 (the 4motion driver will change up before you and lose momentum, god bless 6 speed boxes) then slide into 3rd. If you redline 3rd then you're breaking any public speed limit so my advice ends there
I'd be impressed if you get a real 200bhp from an AGU with just a cat-back, especially with APR
btw with 210bhp (rr'd at stealth) on a dry road, with good tyres I made a 6.2s 0-60 using a g-tech meter. gotta love that 245lbft of torque at 3600 rpm

Thanks for the advice.
yeah i would be surprised if u got a real 200bhp as well . Not sure when I'm racing Ian Richy, might be mid march next time i see him, I'll have plenty of time to sort out my gear changing by then! i thought second gear would be the clincher, and i know i can do 60mph in second now, so with the chip I'll just have to get ready to get into third a bit sooner, should be fun, but i still think he'll have an edge. Can't wait to get it done on Friday now, bet it'll be icy and wet tho so I'll need to be careful testing her out, plus i have a spongy brake pedal as i need to replace a break cylinder or something so that Will make it more interesting. will let u know how i get on Richy.

Nah. I reckon the chipped 1.8T will win. The fo-mo is as heavy as fook with that big lump and 4 wheel drive system ( plus ian will be too careful with his car - you drive like a maniac ;) - just floor it and sidestep the clutch  )

ha ha...i drive like a maniac?? maybe!! ...undertook a Subaru impreza that had a private plate on way home tonight, obviously he didn't see me coming otherwise i wouldn't have stood a chance, but his face was a picture when i blitzed him...ha ha
Subaru down, 4motion here i come!!
