Title: Smoky 8v-is it a problem??
Post by: 15 inches on 20 November 2003, 12:19
I was going to swap an 8v engine with good box and power, into my mk2 to replace my engine which needs new box and the power-150k.
Prob is that new 130k engine smokes a bit when you drive it hard-125mph hard!
Does a smokey engine mean trouble?????
My original engine has had new cam belt and been set up,ect ,ect. The new engine i have no history of.
Smokey engine used to mean stay away in my day!!
But it only does this when driven naughtily ;D
Was just going to swap box and power-but this way could be easyer
Any advice much appreciated

a mate of mine had a 180000 mile passat with a similar prob to yours. he used 'Greased Lightning'
ptfe engine treatment and it worked wonders
gave the engine a new lease of life and no more smoke

www.greasedlightning.com

might be worth a try if your engine is tired

Get the engine rebuilt before you put it in. Will last another 150k.

could be either the valve stem seals or worn piston rings, get a compresion tester and check the compresion of each cylinder if there ok it may be your valve stem seals......

valvoline maxlife oil will help! i use this myself and my mk 2 is on 194000!
